Hoosier A6(road race 345-35-18) vs. BFGs 345,vs. Kumho tires for Max. street traction
Looking for opinions from guys who have tried any of these tires on the streets.
I want to know how much power you were able to put dn. on them, and in what gear.
I've tried the kumhos, and they did alright. I could put dn. 900 rwhp in third gear on a TT set up. First and 2nd gear were useless.
BFG's were a little better (about 800 rwhp in 2nd gear). I've talked to some of you that have told me the A6s 345-35-18 are it, but I recently drove a friend's supercharged 06 on 9 lbs. of boost (around 780 rwhp)with the same Hoosiers in 19", and I could not get traction until third gear.
Maybe his SRT is different. I do feel the ride very stiff in his car, much harder than on my GTS.
If you have had experience with these tires, or have tried something with superior traction in the streets, I want to hear what you have to say.
I had 18" BFG DRs and they hook excelent I thought. Snorman and others have went low 10.2s on those tires with a blower setup. I just bought an extra set of 17s for my car and I will be running the new Hoosier 17" Drag Radials. They are extremely sticky.
i've been 1.62 on the A6's. i think i can do better have't been to the track much. i'm leaving on a 100 shot. want to step it up next time at the track. they are on 19" rims. broke my ring gear bolts with these tires on the car.(i think i had problems there before but who knows)
i have about 4000 miles on the tires and no problems. they pick up alot of gravel on the road.
at the strip, its more prep than tire. The 18" bfg's did well on my 855rwtq cobra but the real ticket is the 17" hoosier dr's. They can hook some big power on the street and the strip

i have had both and i can tell you that the hoosier drs are lightyears better i could hook in 1st with 900rwtq but they are short i called hoosier and asked if the compound was close from the drs to the r6,a6 and he said the drs are twice as soft and they are right now looking into making a tall 18" 345 he thinks it should be 27-27.5. he told me to check back in about 4-6 weeks.

how much power are you making, and how is traction on the streets?

Guys, I'm interested in your opinions on the STREETS, the track has to do a lot with prep.
Also, MT has a 315-45-16 ET street radial that is 27.2 inch. tall, on a 16" wheel that should hook very nice.
thanks!
lol...depends on the street. Asphalt or concrete, condition of the pavement, temperature, etc.. If a tire works well at the track, my experience is that it will work relatively well on the street. These seem to work pretty well on the street, but I haven't really made any passes there since getting them mounted last week.

I drive my Viper only on R-comps (street or track---of course, usually the only time it's on the street is going to the track). I'm not a big drag racer, but I do go to track days about once a month and the odd auto-X.
To be honest, I'm not impressed with Hoosier. They are not a communicative tire---they go from grip to no grip. I much prefer the Toyo RA-1 (haven't tried their successor yet) because they grip well, wear like iron compared to the Hoosier R6s, and you can predict them a lot better.
I have stock SRT-10 power though, and you are looking more for straight line performance I'm sure, so a drag radial would be much better for you, probably. But if you are looking for something a bit more versatile than the drag radial for the street, give the toyos a try.
Edit:
JC, after reading your post one more time, I've really got to discourage you from using the Hoosiers or Toyos. They are designed with really stiff sidewalls for cornering, not for laying down straight line power. The BFG DRs do a much better job than either of these tires and the only reason some straightline people use the Hoosiers or Toyos on the street is to have get rid of the loose feeling when cornering that you get from the BFG sidewalls. The MT ET street radial you mentioned is going to be the absolute best tire. Flexible sidewalls and soft compound = awesome straightline traction.
