Wow, I have not been keeping up with the alley that much recently so I'm not sure what prompted Barry to start this thread but I am pretty sure it didn't go as he intended. I know nothing of Barry's ability around a shop from personal experience so I'm not even going to comment on what he could have done for Heffner or what happened with that situation. I do know that I have had drinks with him a few times when I was out in New Zealand and he really is a nice guy and had a genuine interest in doing his best out here.

Not to fuel anything here but what the hell was meant by cleaning off the assembly oil? I saw that comment several times a few pages back (which now seems an eternity).
Now as an engineer (you can check my credentials if you wish) with 25 years in automotive engineering and that is the first time I have ever read such a thing. Seems nonsensical to me, and completely converse to how real engines are built.
Maybe he means Peanut Oil.... I wouldn't want that on my engine, fucking dogs'd be chasing me down the block.
My bike engines go together with liberal applications of Castrol GTX 10W30...customers diesels, however, still go together with plenty of assembly lube/grease..
Either way, ya don't clean it off once ya put it on, it's there for initial hand rotation and start up on a dry engine and to stop the shiny bits and bearings scoring before the oil system primes...a healthy engine actually has little or no metal to metal contact...that's what breaks them.
