Grinding Gears on 1-2 Upshift

When I do a full throttle acceleration run, I get a little grinding shifting to 2nd at about 5500 rpm. It still goes into gear, and I have the clutch fully depressed. Is this common?

Also, what is the optimum launch RPM? I would find out myself but I don't want to burn through half my tires.

Thanks.

It doesn't do it when you are at normal cruising speeds? Sounds like operator error to me.

Had this kind of problem before, but not on a Viper. When you would redline the car it would grind on the 2-3 shift, however it was perfectly fine during normal cruising. Even the dealership couldn't figure it out after a mechanic test drove it.

Sounds like worn synchros to me. You could try having the trans fluid changed and see if it helps. If it doesn't you either have to live with it or have the tranny pulled and freshened up. The longer you let it go, the more likely you'll be paying for a gear as well as a synchro set.

Mine does the exact same thing. It has done it as long as I have owned the car and funny enough I finally remembered to ask my viper tech about it last week. He said these transmissions are very strong but if there is a problem, the 1-2 gear synchro isn't terribly rare. The fix unfortunately requires them to replace some brass ring or something around the synchro so they have to remove the tranny and you have to buy an "overhaul" kit. Not sure how much those are but I was told it is about 8-10 hours of labor. I'm checking into the total price though

You can get an upgraded carbon fiber synchro kit for around $250. Also spring for the billet steel "chicklets" for the blocking rings.

Possibly a slider assembly also! Monzsta is correct, it's probably a synchronizer sch'meered & worn out. The higher the shift RPM, the worse it get's?
