I am new here and I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chip and I am the new owner of a 2001 GTS. This car is so awesome it's almost like having sex....LOL.
Well I will get right to the point, My brakes squeak and very bad. It sounds as though it comes from all 4 brakes and also sounds like it is metal to metal.
This car has 15,000 original miles and I have heard that all of these cars do this. Is a true statement? It is so cool to pull up to a light or a crowd of people and then this squeaking starts and it become embarrassing.
I guess I would really would like to put a set of new aftermarket rotors on that are grooved and drilled. Also a new set of brakes. I am looking to completely stop the squeaking.
Would a couple of you expert caliber Viper owners please direct me to the right equipment and or vendors to make this car complete.
Until this is fixed it will drive me crazy.
Well that's all for now, I will be looking forward to being a part of this group and hearing from you guys!
No EBC Greens....the compound changed. EBC Reds should now be used. If you are going to replace the rotors then obviously do both at the same time and following the instructions exactly in breaking them in. If you keep the rotors, but the 3M brake resurfacing kit and scuff the rotors when you replace the pads.
On this topic, where do you all buy your mods from? For instance the EBC Red... where are the best prices for Viper's?
Woodhouse, Brakeman or JonB. Break in on rotors & pads are, consecutive runs with no cool down:
10 times 60-5 mph
6 times 80-5 mph
4 times 100-5 mph
Then drive 2-3 miles without touching the brakes so they cool. They will stink, smoke and you will experience "green fade" but they will be properly bedded in

WTF is funny is actually doing this stuff. I was doing it on the interstate at night, and in New Jersey it is still jamming with people driving around because it is CROWDED here. Fricking smoke pouring from the brakes, people thinking you can't drive and or are smoking meth in the Viper-HA. Did this twice and all the time people look at you like "this guy is an asshole!" or "wow, that is kewl, why is he beating that car up?" You forgot to mention that he will have to clean the poop out of his rims afterwards because half of the pads will be on his rims-lol. I am using Brakeman 3 pads and I get them from Woodhouse, but they squeak so badly and this is my third set, but if you want stopping power you will have squeaks. Oh yes, drilled and or slotted rotors will make the problem worse. I had slotted rotors and it sounds like cheese graters-esp. slowing down from triple digits.... Welcome to the Alley and pay tribute by PayPaling my some money please, and don't worry they all paid me when they came aboard, it is the annual membership fee

Now that the prices of virtually everything are going up and up and now that thousands of people are losing their jobs everyday as the US goverment still hands out 10,000+ checks to those people just getting off the boat, I think I will take a boat ride and get in line, I sure could use the money to pay for the gas in my Viper and GTO!

Yup, I used Brakeman3's from Woodhouse on my Stoptech 4 wheel Big Brake setup. Had the Stoptech 14.2" slotted rotors and Brakeman3's are da schnizzle if you wanna stop, especially on a road course.
A way to reduce or eliminate squeaking completely is using two different products at the same time.
The first one is a liquid graphite type of product that you apply to the friction side of the pad. It soaks in and alters the friction properties slightly. No braking performance issues are noticed. Welcome To Husky Brake Anti Squeak
The second product is applied to the back of the pad and is a super stickey spray that adheres the pad to the pistons and prevent the micro movement that is the squeal. http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...rake_Quiet.htm

We replaced the pads on our stoptechs trying to help the nails on chalkboard noise that comes from the brakes-no luck. I guess you just have to look at it this way, what is more important some noise or the security of know if you NEED to stop-you will.
Get a louder radio and enjoy.

I use EBC dimpled and slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads. I also used a little anti-squeal grease on the back of the pads for good measure. I have absolutely no squeal and almost no dust after the initial break-in. Pretty good setup for the street where dust and squeal is the main concern, but the pads are not track worthy.
