Noob Intro

Hello All,

Not sure if this is the right forum to post introductions....

Looking to get into a Viper. Been in love with them since the beginning and leaning towards the Gen II's, preferably 2000 to 2002 because of ABS. I really don't have a preference between the RT/10 and the GTS, they both look awesome. Feel free to persuade me towards one or the other. If I get a RT/10, I will definately get one with the hard top.

A little about me, I've been a car guy since I was a kid and have been into GM and vettes mostly. Currently have a CTS-V w/ a 382 and D1SC and prior to that have had vettes. Previous toy was a C5 vert w/ a 408 stroker.

I look forward to joining the dark side. I've got the mod bug and will be asking lots of questions and doing more research once I get one in the garage.

Thanks,

-Marko

Welcome to the site! Gen II GTS seems to be the vehicle of choice here.

2000 models did NOT have ABS. If that is a must for you, get either a 2001 or 2002.

Wirelessly posted (LGE-VX8550/1.0 UP.Browser/6.2.3.2 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

Sounds like, with your given car mod history, you arent afraid to attack the internals. Normaly I would say go with stock forged internals on the 96-99 to begin with but thats up to your ultimate preference, budget, and ultimate end result for the car. I will put money on an equal, if not greater, ratio of ABS cars crashed vs. non ABS. You come off as an obvious car guy, so you should assume there are good options out there for brake upgrades for all years, especially if you end up going with pre '01.

Go with a 96-99 GTS. They don't have ABS but they do have forged internals which is huge when adding power!

Thanks for the welcome.

I have seen 2000 RT/10's that stated ABS, so I assumed that they did? I know a lot more about vettes and haven't been up to date with the Gen II's as much as I should. I knew about the forged motors on the early Gen II's and that is a good start especially if I'm gonna throw some nitrous at it......

I really like the rims that came on the 99 to 2002 Gen II's vs. the early models, but those can be swapped easily.

Anyone see any good buys out there? I saw the 2000 GTS w/ 17k miles for $39,999 on the board. Anyone know this car or the buyer?

I've checked autotrader and saw some nice examples, but you never know what you are gonna get until you see them in person.

FYI, saw a scam for a 2005 GTS w/ 3k miles for $45k on autotrader. Buyer wanted me to send $4,500 and they would ship me the car....LOL.

If you are talking about this one: http://www.viperalley.com/classified...2&cat=2&page=1 then I know the car well, it is in great shape but has seen track time (if you care about that).

I wouldnt say its a huge difference,

If you want ABS and are not planning on going TwinTurbo then go with the 01/02
They can handle most anything NA as well as a ROE supercharger.

good luck in your seach as we near the 'spring market'...

Must have been a really BAD scam. GTSs were only made 96-02. Anyway, welcome to the Alley. Sounds like you will fit in just fine.

Thanks,

I really wanted to get a yellow GTS, but I knew you had one and you are local, so I can't do that....LOL!

Leaning towards the GTS, but also interested in a SRT-10. I know I need to be patient, but I'm too damn impulsive.
