A friend of mine is thinking about buying a viper after taking a ride in mine, and asked me what the differences between the first gen and second gen models were, and besides a few cosmetic upgrades I couldn't really help him out very much.
Is there a comparison list or thread on here with all the specifics?

That's the thing, hes limited to about 35K, which should be able to get him into a respectable 1st gen, but if he has to he'll hold out a bit and save some more cash up. But why spend 5-10K more?

Since you don't really have a clue, there were no factory black cars in '97. Black was introduced in '99. You must have gotten a really great deal on your re-painted black on black '97 GTS. Otherwise, you got taken bad.
This site is not n00b friendly... You will be better off on the other site learning about these cars. If you have a performance or maintenance question, you "may" get a better response on this site.
ok...I'll play nice and impart my limited knowledge. Gen II RT major upgrades/differences include engine, suspension, windows, exhaust. The most significant, imho, being the suspension components. None of these should exclude a nice GenI from the running if that's what he wants/can afford.
Alright now I am PISSED. Thought I would have the only black 97 GTS . Yes it started life as red but in its second life it will be black because I also like black and I paint. Only advice I can give you is that life here on the Alley is difficult at first to say the least. I tried to set the record for most neg rep but couldn't do it, so instead I decided to research a topic before asking a question about it. Then, I decided to be polite which is kinda against my nature. You, my friend may be redeemed but it will be hard after that rant about all of us being "fucking idiots"

Wow dude, u need help. How do you not know the diff between gens? Know you car!! Know its history!! otherwize you will sooner or later run into enthusiests that know more about your car then you do, leading them to think your a moron.
I would have to say keep looking. I looked for many months and finally found mine 500 miles away. I found a 2000 rt-10 with 5300 miles for 39k. All stock.
You spent 3 years saving up for a Viper (a used wrecked one, at that) and you didn't know that your car was wrecked and repainted a different color?
If I had spent 3 years saving for my dream car, I would like to think I'd know a little about the cars. Like...ohhh... the differences between years and that my car had been wrecked because it wasn't a color that it should have been.
