Ok guys, since you know more than me about the Vipers suspension, i figured i would get you guys to help me out. I am looking into swapping in a Gen 1 or 2 rear Viper suspension into my bagged 2000 Dakota. However, i dont know exactly what it would entail to do this. That being said, what suggestions, info or ideas can you guys give me to help me along. Such things as, new drive shaft? or just custom fit the joints?; etc.
I can help you with this. You will need a friend to help because you have to take several measurements and check for clearance.
First, jack up the rear of your truck and take the tires off. Then slide under it with your feet facing the front of the truck so you are looking straight up at the pinion and the rear end pumpkin is directly over your forehead. Then have your friend kick the jack out from under the car.
I'm just one of those people who doesn't believe in polishing a turd. To what end would this be? You'll never get the geometry right so it will handle like shit. It will also hook up worse than stock because IRS sucks balls like that.
But if you really want to do this, I can maybe get you my lawn guy's phone number. I think he has bags and a Viper rear under his Dakota.
I dont know what your problem is man, im not real concerned about handling or anything like that, the truck is a cruiser, low and slow. I know some of you speed junkies dont get that and that is fine but dont knock me for trying something different. I didnt come on here bashing Vipers or the people who drive them, all i was looking for was some info and knowledge. IRS has been put into Minitrucks before so it obviously works. I just dont understand why you came out and started bashing so hard like that, truly unnecesary. But whatever man, you think what you want.
go to amazon.com and get some books on basic suspension setup. it will all become simple. good luck. alot of cutting up the backhalf of that truck...
why not just go with a 4link?
A 4-link is going to be way easier and a much better setup for a bagged truck. In my opinion, the only way to go. It would be way too much work and way more expensive trying to do the IRS setup.
The truck i already bagged, and laid out with a 3-link. Im looking to do something different, something very few people have done. Im not too worried about the difficulty or money involved because that is all these "toys" are, they are money pits, but that being said, they are great.
You guys seem to really shoot down these "different" ideas im talking about. I never said it was better, i just said different. What do you guys consider different or better? Bolting on a supercharger? Maybe a loud exhaust?
power > show. this isnt a dakota forum... hell, i dont even know if you have a CLUE what your getting into with this project. but probably some kid just dreaming...
ya thats what i am, some kid just looking to pick Internet fights with a bunch of random Viper guys. Why would i do that? Anyways, thanks for all the informative helps guys, much appreciated.

OK, since you asked, here's my take on it. First off, I think low riders are retarded. Much like ricers they are making vehicles into something that does not gel with its originally designed purpose.
However, if you want to have a lowrider, I see no purpose of having a Viper rear under it other than being able to say it has one. The fucking truck drags the pavement so no one can see it and it gives you no performance advantage whatsoever---in fact it will probably cost you a bunch of performance as well as a bunch of money.
So here's my idea. Send me five hundred bucks. I will write out a nice certificate that says you have a viper rear end under your truck. You can show it to people and tell them you have a viper rear end. Problem solved.
Other than that, you are looking at having to buy upper and lower control arms, knuckles, half shafts, center section, tie rods---not to mention brakes. Then you are going to have to have half shafts cut to the proper width, as well as your drive shaft modified. You'll also need to modify the control arms and airbags to work together. While you are at it you will want to swap the front brakes so that the rear end doesn't lock up every time you step on the pedal---that will involve some decent fabrication. Because of the increased demands on the m/c you will need a different m/c and possibly a new booster as well.
Now can you see it would be much easier to just drop the truck on your fucking empty head or purchase one of my Viper rear end certificates?
HAHA, if all that is legit info then thank you, that is all i was looking to get when i posted this originally. Just to address some of your comments, the rear end would be seen because as i said, the truck is a cruiser, low and slow, which means im not worried about performance so the bed of the truck would be cut out in order to showcase the Viper rear end.
I don't even know what half that stuff means and it sounds expensive, so I think I'll go back to smoking weed and drinking 40s with my homies while I think up another idea I can actually pull off---like peel and stick carbon fiber dash overlays.
