Brought my car home tonight from the stereo shop and my heat doesn't work. Air blows out but its cold. I'm assuming either the valve isn't opening to allow coolant to flow to the heater core or there a damper stuck open. Its COLD here. What should I look for first?

Mine doesn't work either I just run it up to 100mph that keeps me warm...
Not sure if you are aware of this, but it might help. I was thinking the same thing the night I bought my Viper. It was somewhat cold while making the 5 hour drive and I thought the heat wasn't working cause it would blow cold no matter where I put the thermostat. However, after taking a look at it and noting everything looked good, I read the owner's manual. Typical, always read directions last. Anyway, manual shows that the heat only works when the vent control is on the right side of the off position. So I jumped in and tried it.....worked like a charm!
Another common issue - the little cable that connects the temp knob often pops off its connection. Its over on the passenger side up near the cowl when you pop the hood. If it doesn't feel like your temp knob is connected to anything - go check that connection.
