I am slowly adding things to my 01 Viper... I have been warned some of the short throw shifters are not as smooth in operation as the stock act more like a gated shifter and do not have the return to help with 2nd to 3rd shifts or reverse lockouts. This brings my question, is this true to all short throw kits? I found a guy selling both the B&M and the Hurst kit for decent prices, I belive Hurst makes the B&M , not sure. I know the Hurst is offered thru Mopar, but looking for reports from people who have them installed in your car. What kit should I get and be happiest with for a sunday driver? Or should I just do what was suggested earlier and get a new shift knob and keep the stock shifter? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just put an MGW short shifter on and forgetaboutit
I have a B&M and love it. The shifts are more sure and its easier to find you gear. The B&M returns to center on its own. I say that because I have heard from other that use another brands that they dont return to center on there own. My only thought is that the shifts seem more stiff that stock. I would do it again for sure. The road race guys around my area like the higher stick height because it gives better leverage for easier shifts. It also keeps the right hand closer to the steering wheel so you dont have to work so hard going back forth to the steering wheel.

Are you freakin' kidding me????? That long shifter is a POS, especially road racing. Any decent driver will handle an MGW short throw like a piece of cake, I have never, I repeat never missed a shift with it and I have ohhhhh 5,000 laps under my belt (as well as 10")
