98 GTS, has Dead Battery. Jumped it once, drove around and the guages say they are good. Parked it for a day, started today and it won't start... I figure times up for the Good Ol' battery, but any reason the battery guage still says its good?
I called Dealer to order one, they said 150 plus tax and I have to wait 4 days.. Can't wait 4 days... any recommendation for Battery Guys???
Can I pick up battery from anywhere or do I have to go with Dodge?
Pick up a battery at your local parts store of choice. They will tell you the required batter, but you might want to ask them for one with a little extra cold cranking amps. I did this just after I bought my 98 GTS. When you don't drive them enough the battery voltage drains over time and then charges back up when you drive the car or put a charger on it. This is the hardest thing on a battery. The best thing for this is a battery tender. I have a similar device on my boat and the original batteries lasted over 4 years, which is unheard of on a boat because of the limited use.
Optoma batteries are top notch, but you may have to lengthen the distance between the battery tray and the roof above. Make sure to plug in that battery tender when the car is not in use, as long as the tender has an auto cut-off switch it won't try to overcharge the battery and do it's job by keeping the battery warm and occassionally charging when the voltage drops 1 volt or so.
Some optimas were shelved for years before ever being used, as most people tend to cheap out and not spend good money on the expensive batteries, which is why yours might have failed. But there is a reason why many marine vehicles and many car audio enthusiasts use optima.
