Fuel Pump Issue
I have a 1998 RT. The fuel pump was replaced im May07. I was having intermittent problems where when I would turn the key to the "ON" position the fuel pump would not energize. Then I would turn the key On/OFF a few times and then it would energize. What I also noticed is that when the key is left in the "ON" position the fuel pump remains energized the entire time. I have been told it should de-energize after a second or two becuase the PCM is not seeing sensors that it is looking for during a "crank" mode. After I examined the fuel pump relay located in the trunk, I noticed it had damage (it looked like it may have blown up at the #30 terminal where battery voltage enters). I thought I found the problem, but after installing a new relay there is the same issue where the fuel pump does not de-energize after a few seconds. I talked to Chuck Tator and he told me to pull the relay while the key is in the "ON" position to determine if the problem lies between the PCM and the relay or between the relay and the fuel pump. When I pull the relay, the fuel pump shuts down (that means its between the relay & fuel pump module). I examined the ASD relay and it is fine. I also swapped it with same types of relays (fog lamps, AC, heads lamps, etc). Does anyone have any ideas? Is the fuel pump suppose to reamain on or shut down after a few seconds? Everything is stock on the vehicle and the fuel pump was replaced by a Viper tech at the dodge dealer. The car runs perfect.
