For anyone who's gutted the cats, feedback appreciated..

Currently, removed stock exhaust with pipes running back from the resonators refusing to pay the cake for the Corsa's.. Ridiculous.

Sounds better, but not loud or nasty enough.

Question:
Two barriers remain, the cats and the resonators...

Questions are : a) leave the cats alone and remove the resonators and it'll wake the sound up quite a bit.

or b) Remove / gut the cats, leave the resonators and it'll sound sick.

or c) Cats gutted, resonators done and running straight pipes back.

Don't want the car to sound stupid.
Currently sounds aggressive when I removed the stock mufflers with pipes only.
(Will post sound clips ) Much, muchhhhhhhh better...

Bottom line:
I want it to pop like a mother fucker on decel. ( Does now since losing the stock exhaust )
Don't want the drone bullshit
When on it, want to scare the fuck out of people
When not on it, no drone and want to relax with it..

Feedback of people in the trenches who've done this appreciated.

I know it's a yes on both..
Will it take away from the sound gutting the cats with the block having a 'different' sound for sure.

and

If gutting the cats and whomever has done so, do they axe the resonators as well ??

Hear much about the cats, but little regarding why in the hell the resonators are there to begin with.

Also worthy of note, have a puff cam at this time, so without the high lift cam, zero idea what sound to expect.

take them out if you are trying to go the cheap way. I have heard a 96 gts with no res, no cats, no mufflers, and it is loud but not a good sound. Its gonna take some experimenting if you are gonna be hacking up your own system.

My advice would be to remove the cats and put in a piece of straight pipe.

If you do not like the sound, you can always put them back in.

If you like the sound and will no longer need the cats, you can sell them.

Removing the cats or resonators will have a drone no matter how you cut it!

yep on side exhaust cars you will get a drone around 3K rpm when you do any kind of mod. Paolo is right dont ruin the cats, you may want to go back, striaght pipe is cheap and easy to do. I bought some 3" flow master mufflers and straight pipe and it sounded great.

Agreed with dansauto, take out the HP robbing cats and the no purpose resonators. Throw on a 3" straight pipe with a nice muffler and it should be tame and fumy when idling and loud enough to wake the dead when floored.

Cheapest and probably best way to do it. Take the cats out, put in a straight pipe. Drive it around for a week, see if you like it or if it grows on ya. If no likie, put in some real mufflers. I like the Dynomax Ultraflows myself.

So what happens on the 98 and newer cars if you take out the cats? Check engine light?

I have a99 and have not gotten a CEL. I would think on the 2000 and newer cars you will need some SIMMS to correct it or buy one of the Roe (96) PCMs.

Gutting the cats ?? That shit is harder to get out than a preacher in a whore house. Just replace them with pipe.

Anybody else have a 98 with no cats? Check engine light? The reason I ask is cause I have been told you must have O2 Simulators on 98 and newer cars.
