I tried to do a search and came up empty handed. Vipers sound well euro to me and less like muscle car compared to small block Ford and Chevy V8's. Is there a way to make it sound less euro and more muscle car rumble like?
Would a tune help?
Timing?
Cam?
Complete new exhaust setup?
What would it take to make it sound like a small block v8 only louder and deeper?
Just curious the exhaust note is the only thing holding me back from wanting to save for a 1994 to 1996 Viper.

I understand the Never sounding close to the 10 cyclinder. But is their a way to get the same rumble tone? Any exhaust on the market that promotes this?
Sorry for not knowing my Viper stuff even if its my favorite car on the planet I just happen to know GOBS on Mustangs since I can afford 1 in the driveway lol. But would love to shop for a 94 Viper around 28 to 30k.
Does this site have a sound clip page or do you guys know a great site for Viper clips?

If you want the sound of a small block v8, then stick with the small block V8! It's pretty simple. The sound of the Viper is very unique and is not supposed to sound like an all amercian muscle car with having 10 cylinders.

My lumpy cammed '99 sounds like an old school muscle car to me. And I've had a few.
Prior to statement:
Fav. sounds to me?
-Lambo V12
-Ferrari, various
-Old big blocks: Hemi's, Pontiac's, Buicks, Chevy's, Olds, Fords..
Big Turbo Supras sound nasty to me, don't know how but some do.
- Hate em, being a GM guy growing up, but the Ford V8 sound cannot be emulated. Sounds Nasssssssssty with a Flowmaster, imo.
Many cars have unique sounds...
Most enthusiasts can know without sight the sound of a Mustang 5 liter coming down the road.. For example...
Ditto with the GM LS1's, 2's and 3's....
Sound of a Viper ???
By far ( in my opnion ) the most unique sounding nasty car out there..
Most don't like it...
Has to be done properly, but if done properly, it's fucking EVIL....
LOUD, SCARY, AND THE COMMON RECATION I'VE HEARD?? WHAT IN THE FUCK IS THAAAAAAAT ? !!!
To me, priceless.
Sidenote to most, the ratracers out there, they shouldn't know the exhaust note unless they are being smoked by a Snake and hearing it ...
Ultimately, sound means shit...
So many kids out there accept the concept that louder = faster...
Wrong...
Focus on the beast.

The V10 can sound as lumpy as any V8 but will have a completely unique note as it revs due to odd firing order.
If you want to hear a V10 that has a different firing order - google Ford Mustang V10 and look for the video. That boss V10 prototype sounded better than most muscle cars ever did.
Also - the Viper sounds a lot better in person and especially from the inside of the car - than on the internet.
I have several "muscle cars" and my Viper sounds like non of them, but none of them sound like my Viper once you turn it up. Both are music, just a little different tune! I run Magnaflow with RT cats.

Fords regular V10 (Triton engine) sounds great as well, kinda surprising, we had just some flows on one of the work trucks, had a mean growl to it. Think it was an even firing order.
Viper has the most unique exhaust note around, when modded/opened up, will not be mistaken for anything else.
Belanger headers, no cats, Corsa's, and some engine workhttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2353166865589421745&q=viper+idle&total=19&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=5
While it will never sound like a true V8 muscle car, I once heard a Viper that sounded so evil, deep, and rumbly that it rivaled the V8 sounds.
Delete the cats, get aftermarket headers and mufflers, and change the cam. That should get you close to the sound without getting into expensive headwork, but if you have the money then do the headwork too.
