I'm thinking about doing one more large spending spree on the car and calling it done. Besides some serious aesthetics work (repaint, Gen II hood, complete interior, etc), I want to do some power upgrades.
I'd like to get a deeper and beefier exhaust tone with some lope while staying naturally aspirated. Upwards of 100 more rwhp would be just about right. My budget is not set but I'd like to stay betwen $5k - $7k.
My last dyno was 412rwhp (175rwhp at 2000rpm, climbing nearly evenly all the way to peak at 4900rpm) and 483rwtq (425rwtq from 2000rpm, peaking at 3700rpm and dropping off slowly to 4600rpm before plummeting).
Everything is in great shape, the only work I'll be doing besides upgrades is a clutch (it's on its way out). Here are my current upgrades:
Aftermarket Headers (previous owner installed, not sure what brand)
Aftermarket 1.7 Roller Rockers (previous owner installed, not sure what brand)
Fluidyne Aluminum 3 Core Radiator w/Modified Fan Module
VEC 1 w/Fuel Indicator
Larger Injectors
Aftermarket Billet Aluminum Pulley's
Aftermarket Smooth Tubes w/K&N Filters
Blueprint Arrow Rebuild
Lightweight Flywheel
Catalytic Convertor Delete
Aftermarket Catback (previous owner installed, might be TNT brand)
3.45 Rear End
Full suspension and brake upgrades
I was thinking cam, heads, and intake but you guys tell me. Am I shooting too low on the budget? Got any better ideas?
60k miles. I considered supercharger, but it's almost pathetic now to have a supercharger on a V-10 and make under 600hp. Plus it's nice having what looks like a stock engine.
It was rebuilt by Arrow at 30-some odd-thousand miles. Also, that was another reason to do internal mods so I can have it opened up and checked out through and through.
For your budget, I would go with the Roe. You already have some of the nice stuff to have(headers, 1.7 RR). With the right tune, you could be above 600 RWHP.
I am leary with the miles you have on the engine. I have had some bad luck modding higher mileage engines. I have come to discover that it is better planning for the worst, expanding my budget to cover the proper rebuild and then move forward.

I understand. But if I it ends up me needing to make repairs during the upgrades then I wouldn't consider that part of the budget. The motor is definetely not in bad shape and isn't abused at all, at about 30k miles on it after the last rebuild I think I'm still in a good time to do some mods. I'll have the money to put into a full rebuild if it'd need it, so you think it's wise?
Any other mods you could recommend?
Any recommendations on a good clutch (something that's fine with up to 600hp)? Something lighter or a less diameter clutch?
I am using a stock clutch on a 900rwhp Viper, I changed it after 25,000 mile and stayed with stock since I had zero problems.
I think Superchargers are the best bang for the buck and in the price range you are considering. Any additional mods in the future would just add icing to the cake. I added a S/C before I did headers or any mods too my Viper. From there I continued to make additions too get to where I am today.
You should be able to do Greg Good heads and cam for that money and still have some for a rebuild. If you pull the engine yourself. I have seen a few of the V10 show copper in the rod bearings at 30k miles.
Noob here.. but you guys are saying that 30k miles is alot on a viper?
I don't know what they are talking about, but these motors can have the living shit beat out of them for a 100,000 thousand miles and never have a problem. Its only when a motor has some big mods done , thats when I would be concerned with engine issues unless you run a air filter then I would be sleeping good at night knowing my motor would most definitly have no issues, But seriously I would not be worried about running my 99 at 800hp with stock internals daily.
30k miles on a viper motor is no big deal untill you start putting heads/cam or supercharger on it. then id be leary of it. and only cause i blew mine up on the dyno at 40k with a recently installed s/c.....

was it tuned properly? Not busting your balls, just curious
30,000 miles and that engine should still be great. Leak down test and spend an hour or so to check a few (or all) of the rod bearings and that should solve any questions. My money says it's fine....I base that on an inspection of my Arrow engine 45,000 miles AFTER they rebuilt it (70k total)
kiaser, did you see the Greg Good heads for sale ? Shoot him an offer. Also, very little down time.

I'm definetely itching for it, but those are Gen II heads... I still can't find any information as to whether or not they'd work on my Gen I.
