Trade... Just a Thought - Well

Guys,

Its just a thought, my apologies if it sounds stupid. I have a 98 GTS in mint condition, 14k miles on it. It is Red w/Silver stripes... Well heres the deal. I am really interested in the 06 SRT/10 and was thinking, is it wiser to trade it for a SRT/10 at the dealer or private sale is better? Will the dealer give me the value of the car?

My other thought was, if someone wants to even trade with me... Anyone here??

dealer will bend you over, just sell it for 30k to me, and call it a day.

Sell it priv you can get at least 40k for it. i was fishing the prospects a few months ago when i was thinking about selling my car with a paxton on it and 30k miles, i got bites for 45k. its a 97 red with fake silver stripes, lowered and full exhaust (headers back). I am also form california.

the market is slow right now so you might have to wait a bit. i considered trading my ar in for a gen 3 coupe blue with silver stripes. the dealer was going to give me low 30s for my car. i wasnt having that.

Depending on the state tax laws, a trade may be a good deal. If you pay tax on only the price difference between the two cars you may be better off.
Example(assuming 6% sales tax)
They give you $35k and your purchase is $50k. You trade your car plus $15k + $900 tax on the $15k trade difference. You are $15,900 out of pocket plus your car and the deal is done in a day.

You sell your car outright for $38k after advertising and dealing with tire kickers. You buy the new car for $50k plus $3000 (6% sales tax). You are $15,000 out of pocket plus your car. You have $900 more but you had to spend time and many phone call trying to sell it.
