Howdy,
I have finally bought my dream car, a 2001 Viper Rt/10 in Sapphire Blue, it is bone stock with only 7K on it. I have one issue, I never keep a vehicle stock. The other issue is I have no idea what I am doing with a car, I only have had large 4x4's in the past. Until I get comfortable driving it, only had it a few weeks, I don't want to go crazy on the engine. I would like to do some bolt ons and wanted to knwo a good shop in the San Antonio area to either do some of the harder work or give advise on install. From past research on this site it looks like I want the 1 5/8 Bellanger headers, 3" high flow cats, and Corsa exhaust to get the best most ballsy sound out of the V10. Honestly I want to go headers and straight pipes but don't know if that would kill me inside with noise or not. Other bolt on would be an air inatke, would you suggest the K&N with the box, the Vipair box, or just smooth tubes? I am sure I will have MANY more questions or wanting to get opinions but this should get me started! Thanks you in advance.
Also is it worth installing a short throw shifter and is the Hurst the best out there?

Take the short drive north to American Racing Technology in Buda, Tx. Talk to Cody, he should be able to set you up. I would go more the 1 3/4" headers .

This is a good point, should I go with the larger header if I am going to keep the engine without TT or a SC? I have heard that going with the larger header I would loose mid HP and TQ. Thanks. I drive by Buda on my way to Austin's back roads, I will look them up. Would you reccomend the Corsa or just go straight pipe?

You could always try the straight pipe set up first; but, many people would consider that too loud. I believe that the Corsa is the quietest option from what I have read. I have the Corsa on a GTS and I am very happy with the sound. It has a great sound under acceleration and deceleration; but, is not obtrusive at steady speed. It all depends on personal preference, IMHO.
Since you are new to the Viper I would go slow. Get use to the car, talk to other owners about there mods. Cody has a good rep in the Viper community. You have to be careful because all the tuners in Texas are not honest. I will send you a PM so you do not get ripped.
I'll actually be down in San Antone during the week of Jan 21st...with some other San Antone Viper folk if you want to hook up...
Sounds great. I take it out any day the weather is nice enough. Would like to meet up with some other owners and see what they have done to thier cars as well. Not looking to mod the hell out of it, just intake and exhaust, maybe a short throw and that is about it. Let me know when and where you guys are going to meet up. Thanks.
Intake, headers, roller rockers, short throw shifter, delete cats, high flow mufflers, plugs/ wires and a 3in cat back system will open the car up nice. Maybe a brake upgrade with some better lighter rotors since you already have the ABS model.
Enjoy the car.

Thanks to the guys at ART I have the K&N Intake, TNT Headers, Cat delete, B&B 3" Catback, new plugs... just replaced the 8 year old tires with BFG KDW2 tires, seem to like them so far. Got the set installed for $950, sure as hell beats the Michelin cost IMO. So now I am just missing the roller rockers, short throw, and brake upgrade... AS far as the brakes, two piece rotors are lighter right?
Car has been getting hot, might upgrade the cooling system soon as well. Any Thoughts?

woa.......... Like Rick-SRT10 said GO SLOW!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea what it's like to have the rear end wrap around beyond all controll when the tires break loose and you get into a frenzy of "oh crap" on your hands as you try to regain control. Get used to the power and ALWAYS keep GOOD tires on the rear. Since you are coming from rock crawlers and mud slingers, I would advise you to spend a few months of driving on OPEN ROADS with little or no traffic to get a feel for the car from a dig and a bit on the top end, then take the car to ART. You are going from 20 second trucks in the 1/4 mile to an 11 second beast so become confortable with it before going all out.

Don't leave it in gear as you approach stop lights and what not. Keep the RPM's below 3,000 if you are just cruising. I know it sounds good and makes heads turn, but don;t do it all the time. I toss mine into neutral all the time when I'm approaching a light or know I can cruise in neutral for a good distance. Alot of newbies keep their cars reved high in the RPM range and it only makes the car get hot. You can play with it, but just don't go overboard. Same as leaving a 4x4 in 1st cruising down the road.... you just don't do that. I'm sure you already know all this, but thought I would mention it anyways.

I would be real careful how you talk about these "20 second trucks." I know of many Dodge Cummins trucks that could beat the shit out of many of the vipers on this board. Trust me, coming from experience, I own a diesel performance company and these trucks don't mess around. I recently sold my 2007 Mega Cab that made 792 hp and 1340 lb/tq at the rear wheels. This truck ran an 11.7 1/4 and it was considered one of the slower vehicles at the Diesel Nationals.

what a waste... we dont put big wheels on our sportcars and try off roading them, so why do some people feal its necessary to seriously drag-race their trucks?
Congratts on the 2001 Viper Rt/10 in Sapphire Blue!!
utube will be your friend for clips of diff exhaust setups.

maybe its a southern thing.
Once you get your ass stomped by a truck in your Viper you will feel like a dumbass. That is the thrill of killing high dollar cars that bitches like you drive and think you are big shit. By the way, your spelling has improved!
