I think this guy may be a rat. Check out the ad on Craigslist and then the one on Ebay. We looked it up on Chrysler and the title has full restrictions, unlike what this guy suggest. Also, over the phone he said it had 680hp at the ground, but besides the Hennessy Badges it appears to be stock. Just curious if anyone knows what the deal is with this car.
I did some checking for you. Phone # used in Wakeforest Nc, Petersburg Va, and Raleigh Nc. Has a Motor cycle on ebay with same # and a Lambo advertised in Dupont Registry. He has an email address in Dupont ad. He has a computer and email, why does he have someone else do his sales that can't answer any questions? Car looks stock as a rock. Even original air boxes. If car was stolen it should be salvage title unless insurance didn't payoff. Better run carfax first.
Thanks for the info. I'm really curious about the Hennessy badges and him claiming to have invested $89K and having 680Hp, but stock air boxes? He said all of the upgrades were internal... but who leaves the airboxes stock with upgrades like he suggest? I've tried to meet him several times and he backs out. Looks like he wants to sell it to someone one Ebay who will pay for it before they check it out.
How many 1998 viper's came with the 17" wheel's? i thought they had 18"s, plus the usual venom 600 car's at least had header's on them you can see that it has the cast iron manifold's still on, plus the E-BAY add state's that it has a salvaged title in the listin and yet he tell's you over and over that it has a "clean" title? i would be very very concerened even at that price!!! Just my .02....good luck!
The key words on this ad are: "HE MUST SELL!! $33k will buy it, but ALL funds must be received before i will end the auction! " This is a BS scam, if you want, try him out. He will ask you to pay for this car via Western Union or some other BS means. His friend, the supposed real owner of the car, is conveniently out of the country or some crap story... try it out, email or call the guy and have some fun with it.
To test him out, tell him that you will fly down with the cash. Once you drive the car and it is to your satisfaction, you will pay him the money ONLY after he signs the title over to you. At this point, he will tell you that there are multiple VERY INTERESTED buyers and that you need to send all the cash NOW to hold it for you.
I hate these pricks, this type of scam got one of the kids in my Department (US Navy) to send $8000 as a deposit... he was so happy about the "good deal" that he did not listen to his gut nor did he consult with me (his Department Head) or anyone else in the Chain of Command. Needless to say, he is out $8,000 and there is nothing we can do for him.
If it is too good to be true... chances are good that it is in fact too good to be true.
Lastly, if you don't listen to paragraphs 1 through 4 above, send me $33k and I will send you a copy of the title to my Viper.
Just an observation but that's not even a REAL Hennessey LOGO on the back of the car! I have been to John's shop and seen several of his cars and that IS NOT his logo......
Ebay lists it as a salvage title, but he says the title is clean "it's a mistake ebay made". I attempted to contact "the owner" twice with no response. I just don't see why a person that can afford to put that kind of money into a car would have someone with a sub high school education advertise it for them.
Edit: Tell him that you'll buy the car, but he needs to fax you a copy of the title first. You'll never hear from the guy again if it's a scam.
I contacted the seller during my search. CARFAX shows a front impact and salvage title in 2001 in Henderson NV. It then was re-titled in CA on the date shown in the pics in CA. Maybe there was documentation of a rebuild to clean the title? Who knows. The seller was an ass anyway and played the whole "I don't know" to everything from the title to the mods. I think he is just fishing for an EBAY sucker to take advantage of the seemingly low price who doesn't know how to research cars.
Lame... That motor is bone stock. Every Venom package came with and air box, tubes, headers and ALWAYS said "Venom Power" under the Viper lettering on the valve covers and those logo's as said above are not real Hennessey logo's. Also if I'm not mistaken all Venom's come with some type of interior badging as well. I bet the car doesn't even exsist in the context of the ad or if it does something is up for sure.
