Yes, you guys can all laugh at me..... Some of us make mistakes and don't post em, but so yu guys can feel good about yourself, here goes. I have my valve covers off and getting powder coated now, installed my new TB's new black matching larger smooth tubes, T&D's, bigger push rods and then.....
I DROPPED A PUSH ROD INTO MY ENGINE AND IT WENT INTO THE LAND OF THE LOST! Pulling the oil pan today to retrieve it as a Viper Alley friend told me to do that to get to it.... Wish me luck. I was VERY tired and worked 14 hour days for retail computer sales and such and worked at night, so that is what happens. I didn't even drop it in the right hole beside the lifter, I started putting it in the oil drain hole and even if I saw it the fit is tight. It fell near the rods out of sight, but anyhow I have air tools at my house, so it won't kill me except for my big ego (which needs deflated anyhow). Anyhow, that is my update to help you all feel better about yourself laughing at me-ha. Gary

Thanks Josh! I'm working a half day today shipping late X-Mas gifts to folks and will hit it tonight and hope to see it easily enough. I was told the windage tray might have to come off too, but it is pitiful I was that tired as I have built a lot of engines myself and never did this before-lol.
Gary let me tip my hat to you. We all have problems and screw ups in our cars. Just some people just have an ego to large to share these fiascos. Good Luck and be patient. 08 will be a better year.
I'd try reaching it with an extendable magnetic retriever before I went to the trouble of dropping the pan. You can get them at autozone for a couple of bucks. I have one that the magnet is smaller than the diameter of a pushrod and it extends out about 2 1/2 feet. Might not work but it would be worth a try IMO.
I cannot see it, and the hole is VERY small that I can't even get a nickle sized magnet in there to search around unfortunately.... Believe me, I do not want to do extra manual labor on anything-lol.

My magnetic extender is about the size of a pencil (will clip in your shirt pocket like an ink pen). It will fit anywhere that a pushrod can go.

You read my mind, that is a great idea as it has saved my clumbsy ass on more than a few occassions. If it can happen, it happens to me when working on my cars.
Pulling the pan is super-easy. It's just about 32 of the same bolts that hold on your valve covers, intake manifold, throttle linkage, etc. The hardest part is jacking the car up and putting it on jack-stands.

Retrieved the pushrod, and thanks for the support. I looked at the motor inside with the pan off and my motor looks like new as it should be with only 17K miles or so on it. I tried the magnet thing again as I have 3 of them here, even borrowed my friend's professional one and this neato light, but couldn't get it. Anyhow, added my rockers tonight too, but didn't adjust em yet. Hope I made you all feel better about yourself that I am an idiot sometimes. The Viper is a HELL of a lot easier to work on than my 68 GTO!
