Angry Windshield small crack-replace or fix?

I can post a pic, but let's say 3 inches long and the one end is in the rubber gasket at the bottom of the windshield. There is no other damage, just a crack, but it appears that it started out of a rock chip. I have done a patch before on my other car with a kit, but that was 6 years ago and it held and looked great, but it wasn't on a crack. Another car I would just replace it as it would be a few hundred bucks, but I loathe the idea of someone working on my Viper with their belt buckle scratching the car (visual aid: a beer bellied guy who just consumed a cheese steak and has the remnants of lunch on his greasy shirt) and their reassurance that they know what they are doing, they never damaged a car before and then he will damage it and then say "dude, it is only a tiny scratch, nobody will see it". Anyhow, not into the latest technology for a cracked windshield, so advice is appreciated. TY Gary

I'm kewl with the $400 Josh, but the cheese steak guy dragging his ass all over my car or scratching my paint as he uses the install kit just makes me so nervous thinking about it.... I put in windshields before 20 years go as a helper and I know it is a pain, but anyhow I know I am a nerve and picky and most of the guys that do that shit I feel are not up to my standards. I'd rather try and fix it instead of anyone touching my car, I have had my car scatched 4 (FOUR) times already, two by dealers and the other two by the tow truck drivers who "never scratched a car yet" idiots. I have a lot of reason to be nervous about here, so if there is a reasonable alternative to fix it I'd love to hear it and at least try it first myself :-) TY
