Is my side sill insulation shot?

I put Dynomax high flow cats and Moroso spiral flow mufflers on the Viper last week in hopes of a few HP and better sound, not to mention cooler sills. I have bubbles on my passenger sill from the heat of the stockers. With the new stuff, my sills are still pretty damn hot. The insulation is still present, but looks burnt to a crisp where the stock cats were. I'm afraid the sills are still getting too hot. I seen Partsrack has some vents for the ends of the sills, do those really help? Do I need new insulation?

the insulation from the factory gets blackened. As per Tator, it is not something you can order unless you buy the whole sill from the factory. It is very costly to do that. I had a friend try the roe insulation shit and he said it was an awful waste of money. I nixed the cats and almost all the heat left as well.

I have a few extras, but most will just paint the inside of the sills with Hi-temp paint. Then re-use their old ones. How shot are they? Can you post pictures?

I imagine they are not terrible.

I'd ditch the cats but I enjoy driving the car and not smelling like exhaust.

do the vent's. they work very well. thick insulation just keeps the heat trapped in there longer. if you remove the cats you dont need any vents.

I don't have cats and don't notice any smell, good, bad or otherwise. It make a huge difference in regards to the heat in the cabin and that come off the side sills.

I had a few members tell me the smell was pretty bad, but better with a re-tune to lean out the mixture. I might give it a shot, now that the high flow cats are in I can make "test pipes" much easier.

I bet this thing is LOUD with no cats....

A little throatier and nice rumble at idle for sure. Close to the sound of headers.

Remove the rear sill covers (remove the rivets), and cut the front sill fiberglass. Install some aluminum grills to keep dirt and debris out of it.

I did that, and the sills have not discolored, or bubbled again. Especially on silver, you need to keep the sills cool or else plan on repainting every year or two :P

If you need some help, feel free to PM me...

I had the same problem with the same cats. I have the roe race kit and it bubbled up the paint like a mother f*&#$%! I ended up loosing horse power 2 and found out when i removed the cats 1/3 was totally plugged up. I ended up taking the cats out and couldn't be happier. I did have to repaint the skirts and had some body work done on them 2.
