I'm not real happy with the "shine" of my stock rims. They appear to be polished aluminum but I'm not sure if they are clear coated or not. If not I can re-polish them, if so I'm just stuck with the finish the way it is. Maybe I'll paint them black.......
Don't buy a fucking word of it..
Don't belive you have a GTS or you would absolutley 1000000 percent know this.
..And your comment of ' don't want to drive my camaro in the rain ? '
Bottom line
total bullshit..
Get the fuck off of the site (stalker exbroad or whomever you are ) ..
Stop wasting people's time.
Total haushit.....
Thank you,
and,
Thank you..

I'm not happy with the "shine", not sure how to explain it. It looks like they haven't been polished in a very long time but when I try to polish them (using Mothers polish on a small powerball) it oviously doesn't improve since they are clear coated.
Secondly, the "drive my Camaro in the rain" comment is a smart ass remark because I know the rep Camaros and F bodies in general have here. My Camaro (2002 Z28) is my "project". It has a blown 408, and is actually quite fast for a D1SC blower. Its why the GTS is staying mostly stock, one headache is enough.
Third, I really don't give a shit if you believe I have a GTS or not, I didn't buy it to impress anyone (least of all you) so trust me when I say I won't lose a seconds sleep over what you think. This board has been very helpful thus far and I love it, I was referred by another member (turbo50mike) when I bought this car. Dicks like you come with the territory so I'll just ignore it for now. I don't have time to troll message boards for cars I wished I owned just to stir up shit.

1997 GTS, red of course. Bought it so I wouldn't have to drive my Camaro in the rain.
Were some of these GTS rims chrome plated from the factory or something? Because I have seen others with the same rims and they look alot nicer than mine, they look chromed or very highly polished.

.
The rims from what I understand improved from the first year and on from there as far as polish and luster.
The Pics and VIN statement was to help ease the other person, not me.

No on the factory chroming, but some have had theirs sent to CalChrome and other places and had them striped and chromed.
The rims are clearcoated, so all the polishing in the world really isn't going to make them shiny.
You have two options with respect to the stock wheels:
(1) take them somewhere to have the clearcoat stripped and have the wheels polished.
-They actually look pretty good when polished correctly. Very shiny. Frankly, you wouldn't really know they're not chrome until you put them next to a chrome set.
- Not very expensive. Around here, you can get a 17-18" wheel polished for $100.
- Fast. Drop them off, pick them up about a week later. No shipping. Very little downtime.
- The downside is that they are much harder to care for afterwards. You can't simply clean them with windex any more. You actually have to "polish" them frequently to keep the shine;
(2) Send them to CalChrome or any reputable chrome plater.
- They will look great
- Much easier to keep clean.
- Generally more expensive. I believe to chrome a 17-18" wheel is usually around $150-200/wheel. Plus, unless you have a chrome plater in your hometown, you have to pay to ship all 4 wheels also.
- Longer downtime. Shipping is probably 3-4 days each way and chroming can be anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
Of course, you can always buy aftermarket wheels. However, if you really want to keep your stock ones you either have to live with the dull finish, have them polished or have them chromed.
I dunno, I'm seriously considering painting them black. It'll be cheap, different, and mean looking. I have a set of SS rims powdercoated black for my Z28 (also black) and its downright evil looking. I love black, almost all my cars have been black. The first thing people say when they see me driving a red Viper is "Its not black?".
