If so who what and where? Also was modds were on the car? This is my next quest or stupid acomplishment that I would like to achieve with my Gts
So far I've hit 150mph in the rain, and a top speed of 180mph :angel: Who wants to see a video of a Viper doing 200 mph :bonk:
BTW, YOU NEED AROUND 525 RW HP TO HIT 200 IN A STOCK BODY GTS. THE USUAL BOLT-ONS WILL NOT GET YOU TO 200, YOU WILL AT THE VERY LEAST NEED A GOOD HEAD/CAM PACKAGE. I HAVE PERSONALLY TESTED A DOZEN VIPERS OF VARIOUS MODS IN THE 200 - 220 RANGE. THESE CARS WERE EITHER HEADS/CAM, BUILT MOTORS OR TWIN TURBOS. I AM SURE THE BLOWER CARS GOT ENOUGH POWER TO GO PAST 200 BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY ACTUAL TESTS THAT CONFIRM THAT.
Asked the same ? @ the morgue a few months back and got some interesting responses. It is in the general viper discussion area around the 1st of June, but here are a few:

John, I just put the #'s in my spread sheet and came up with two figures: With the hard top I remember RT/10's have a CD of about .45 and with top off a CD of .50.
For a CD of .45 you will need approximately 624 RWHP to go 200 MPH.(Hard top on)
For a CD of .50 you will need approximately 684 RWHP to go 200 MPH. Top off
Compare this to a GTS needing "Only" 514 RWHP to do the same 200 MPH.
I would agree you would need some aerodynamic modifications to be stable. I remember being in an RT/10 once going 170+ and it felt nothing like the stability the GTS has at 190+. You would also have to check your wheel bearings, have brand new tires that are Y-Rated, have a high speed alignment and maybe add some rake to your car to add to the downforce proportionally. Heffner and myself are planning to do some closed track high speed testing. If you wanted to attend, I am sure I could give you a 200+ MPH ride if you filled out all the necessary waivers.........LOL!

Assuming that drag forces are proportional to velocity squared, Drag is governed by the ricotti equation,
-m d/dt (v) = CA v^2
where m is the mass of the car, v is the speed and
CA is the drag coefficient
The drag coefficient is then
CA = (V2 - V1) * m / (V2 * V1 * t)
Say the mass is 3000 pounds giving
CA not CD = 0.56 (well say you have an RT with the top off and a fat girl in the passenger seat)
The power (HP) required to overcome drag is given by
HP = CA v^3.
Mike, I think the cd for a GTS is around .38, but not sure. This was based on my RT with the top off.
A local guy passed 200 recently in his Roe SC'd GTS. I believe it's either a 99 or 2000 car. No internal engine mods that I'm aware of. I don't think he posts on the boards.
Actuall, I've had mine to 180 and it was still pulling, though slow. I had my hard top OFF! No kidding. Aside from a new hair do, it was a very impressive thing. I have no desire to go faster (actually no faster than 160), but if I get the bug, I'll be sure to take into consideration the info on this post.
I usually hit 160 or so on my way to work with top off on a regular basis (2 X's week or so). One day I decided to push it. And push it I DID. I had no idea it would rocket that fast.
2bad4u, I'm just brain dead really
John I would love to attend your closed track testing. Can I bring my cream puff to see what it will do? If not, I'll bring the camera and get shoot your speedo
Coop are you for real they donated a closed highway Lucky you, I have no roads like that here in Ny where I can do some top speeds over 170
180+ probably more like 183-184 but I wasn't taking too much time to stare at the speedo. State hwy 90 West of Marfa Texas. Car was stock and still pulling.
Video sounds like fun, but if fallen into the wrong hands can come back to bite you. I prefer to keep it on an urban legand status.
John
I dont see how they can prove from a speedo that you are actually doing that speed, and which car it is and what state it is, and who the hell is driving? I bet I can send that video of that idiot doing 180mph and the cops cant do squat about it :bonk:
There was that guy with the ferarri video that was posting his "speeding" escapades all over the net, he was found and prosecuted. That's all I know...he could have released his name for all I know and had a pic of his tag? I don't know, but it was entertaining following that auto soap opera.
