Starting Problem

98 RT

Lately after driving around for 30 minutes or more, when I turn off the vehicle it will not restart. It just cranks. When I turn the key on I cannot hear ther fuel pump energize like it normally does. What I have done is remove the gas cap, I can hear a hiss from pressure being released. Then I turn the key, fuel pump kicks on and then it starts no problem. This has happened four times in the last month.

The fuel pump module was replaced this past May. I know there is a fuel pressure regulator that is a mechanical device (spring?). Could that maybe be sticking. I think the gas cap has some type of special seal that relieves pressure, does that need to be replaced? I took it to the Dodge dealer to have some fluids changed and had them look at this while it was there but the car operated normal for them. Any thougths?

The fuel pump has a 12mo/12K mile warranty, but the car has not acted up when I took it the dealer. They cannot look into replacing the fuel pump unless it acts up in front of them.

hmmm
check to see if there is a vent for the tank? if thats cloged, you might be getting to much vacume in there...worth a shot. dont know why that would affect the fuelpump tho.

How does crank position relate to fuel pressure, when I remove the gas cap and then start it everything seems fine?
