Heard different responses, so the guys in the know, please let me know. Running a 2000 GTS with a 96 PCM purchased from Roe. First, I was told I need to buy sims and then I was told I didn't need them if I chose not to run cats. I'm not saying which vendor as that is irrelevent, but anyhow choosing my exhaust now and whether or not to run cats. Thinking maybe straight pipes off the TNT's and a Borla cat-back now, all 3" including the front of the Borla getting welded to 3' from the stock 2.5". Seems to be inexpensive and good HP with my new TNT headers. So if I choose not to get the cats, do I need the sims? Just looking for power and a reasonable amount of noise (not too loud). Now that the prices of virtually everything are going up and up and now that thousands of people are losing their jobs everyday as the US goverment still hands out 10,000+ checks to those people just getting off the boat, I think I will take a boat ride and get in line, I sure could use the money to pay for the gas in my Viper and GTO!
You will not get a check engine light on a 96 without cats, but you can get the dreadfull IDLE HANG. My only mods were to take off the cats and run 3" from there back. Kept everything else STOCK and I got idle hang (no check engine light). I put the SIMMS on and it fixed the idle hang.
