Just bought a set of used 1 3/4" headers off of Boost-Almighty that were used a couple of thousand miles. I am also changling to 3" exhaust and dumping my cats when i install the headers to get really nice airflow (also jumping my blower boost, rockers, TB's, et cetera and such at the same time). I was thinking of getting the headers Jet-Hot coated with their sterling or extreme sterling and dumping that header wrap DC stuff. I have used Jet-Hot before on two sets of headers and I have been very happy with it. I asked Jet-Hot's tech guy if I could do both and he said "no, it will damage the jet-hot if you do both". So there is my circumstances and yes, I searched before posting to avoid the flames of expert flamers on here, so which do I do? Do I get the Jet-Hot coating which does look great and helps keep temps down, or do I not coat and wrap them with the DC factory wrap? Any other options for a used set of TNT's I am buying in the way of keeping heat down with the SC and making them look pretty? Thanks in advance, Gary

Now that the prices of virtually everything are going up and up and now that thousands of people are losing their jobs everyday as the US goverment still hands out 10,000+ checks to those people just getting off the boat, I think I will take a boat ride and get in line, I sure could use the money to pay for the gas in my Viper and GTO!
Easy, get them Jet-hotted! They will be MUCH nicer looking and the Jet-hot does a great job at keeping the heat doen to a minimum. Go with the highest rating temp coating(I'm guessing it's the extreme sterling). I had their basic coating (1300) and on teh turn-outs from each cylinder, they started (just barely) to lose the color(went to a dull silver).
As Mike said, go Jet-Hot. My headers were done by them and have held up great.
I've also heard the same thing regarding the wrap over ceramic coating. I've also been told that raping headers can be bad over time, but who knows how legit that is. I'm sure someone on here knows the facts on wraping.
Done deal, just sealed the deal with Jet-Hot. I use their coating on my GTO for 10 years on two sets of headers and they look and work great. TY for advice and GOOD BYE to the factory headers and wrap stuff soon! Gary
In all seriousness, Jet Hott is the way to go. The advantages to a coating are that you get coating both inside and out, it looks great, it requires no maintenance, it keeps underhood temps cooler and you get the benefits of "scavenging" the hot exhaust gases.
With header wrap, you may find that you actually trap moisture under the wrap and cause premature corroding of the header metal. Plus, it's generally more difficult to get the wrap on there perfectly and keep it in place with metal zip ties. While wrapping may still result in some of the same benefits, there is much more potential downside.

LOL, I just saw my typo.
That's my exact point to what I was told about wrap. It came from a gentleman who did a v-8 swap in a jeep, wrapped the headers due to heat, but later noticed that they actually rotted out.
I got 10% for asking, but you can get 15% if you have a legitimate shop order for you. I paid like $370 minus a discount on V10 headers for Supreme Sterling plus shipping back to me.
I know they will be pretty and all, but don't discount using the factory heat shields along with the Jet Hot if you are really concerned with keeping the heat down.
i have my headers and full exhaust wrapped and it made a huge difference for me. im in florida so it gets really hott here. i have never had anything coated before maybe next time i'll try that
Gary, I would also Coat the headers, but Wrap the exhaust. It will make a major difference in the heat inside the car. Plus its cheap, and it Will make a difference.
Chris
On that note, would you guys coat the collectors too? Chris, you mean wrap all the pipes down to or close to the tailpipes? With the Viper's AC, keeping heat out of the inside is not a bad idea-lol. I have the headers enroute to Jet-Hot on Monday, but the collectors with the rounded pipe (I guess a foot long each) being jet hoat coated would be a good idea too if they can do it cheap enough. TY for all the advice guys!
