It is possible to get a TT Viper to run some fast lap times, depending on the road course. But the overall combo of power, chassis and aero and DRIVER all have to be happy with each other.
Our Venom 800 Twin Turbo SRT had the lowest road course times in the 2004 Car and Driver supercar shootout. We tested the same car at TWS and ran 10-15 minute test sessions on a 100 deg. day and had no problems with overheating.
But anyone who is wanting to road race is going to have an easier car to drive if they stick with NA. The guy with a TT will have some fun road racing as he passes everything on the straights. But then he will get pissed off when the Neons and Miatas pass him thru the turns.
He took it to a road course? With a front mounted intercooler? Impossible! (sarcasm). That was my point, that level of power is not realistically useable on a road course and that a good head / cam car which can still have more power than you need will be able to apply the power to the ground more smoothly and get around the track much more quickly.
On most road courses, it is the driver that makes the difference. I'm not if lining up two super-powerful cars will make a difference unless we are just testing IATs or something quantifiable.
As for power usage, check out this track: Roebling Road Raceway - Track on the back stretch, you can definitely use the full power! Fun track, by the way...

Since the SCCA requires that Vipers add lots of weight to the cars, can we place a bag full of rocks in the passenger seat and hurl them at the Miatas and Neons if they creep up in the turns?

You know when we first started doing the Twin Turbo's we were using way to big of a inter-cooler... We have tested back to back from the huge over kill ones we used to use against the smaller street ones and have noticed no power drop in the 1200 rwhp range with only slightly higher inlet temps. That is one reason there would be NO benefit to putting Air/Air ICs behind the fog lights... I think it hurts you more then anything. You are right about trying to run a TT on a road course ..... I would rather have a Supercharged power adder if I had to pick between a TT and a Supercharger on a road course.

Paolo, what you are doing here is obviously got the 'big tuners' interested.. for either good or bad, I hope that with whichever car you chose, you take it to the track and put down some good numbers. Good Luck, it's a long road..... When you have people like... Henn, UR and HR getting involved, you know it is a big step up against the constantly proven tuners for the DIY people. Congrats on that front (not IC). Every young tuner has it's hazing, I really hope you you come through it.

"obviously got the 'big tuners' interested" Please.........we tuners are getting tired of all the talk of this is better then that BS! Ever think of that?? The TOP TWO tuners didn't come on this board and say mine is better then this or that! They went out to the track and got real world #s and hold all the drag racing records by far!
Yourself and Heff are the benchmark, you know, we know, everybody knows...... as you have said many a time, numbers speak more than words.... just give them a chance, thats all I'm saying.
No, I am not missing the point.....blah, blah...... I would be willing to bet that the front mounted intercooled cars have substantially lower IAT's under boost. So congratulations, you have developed a system that isn't really fantastic at anything but at least it can do everything in a mediocre fashion.
You are wrong.
I measured the same core as one in the front of the car(original setup) or split in two behind the foglights with the same sensor and slightly cooler IAT's with the side mounts.
Don't kid yourself.
I will have a car ready in the near future.
I will be willing to travel to make the comparison.
I will let you know when I am ready.
I am sure JID will start going to the track in the near future as well with the good tranny and rear end hardware to put down some drag strip #'s.
Here's where we should continue these discussions.
