Well I am just about clearing 200 miles on my brand new (at least for me) 2002 Viper with light mod's. (roughly running at around 500 rwhp).
Anyways, my Viper has the stock gear set up. I drive standard ok, but not exactly ready to show off my skill at the track (still learning the in's and out's.......sorry all my other toys were automatic's hehe). Ok so here is my question. At 65 mph I am usually in 3rd or 4th gear. Now when I get on the gas in these gears it doesn't pull. Do I need to downshift back into second gear to pull. It definately seems that way. From driving a 5 speed, 3rd was more of the passing gear.
Are there any advantages to changing the gear setup to 3.55?
Reason I ask is it seems like with the amount of power in this car it will easily pass 75mph in 2nd gear. I am guessing that I need to be in that gear to get the power to accelerate at that speed.
hmmm...Not sure about 500rwhp, but I'm usually in 5th or 6th @65mph just cruising....4th to get 'on it', Ive gone into 3rd, rarely...out of my powerband (high RPM's)
4th should give you the power to move @ 75mph and pass someone w/ 500rwhp; if your going into 2nd, then your in the wrong gear

To really pull at 65, you should be in second gear. Second will last to around 80 MPH with the stock gearing.
The 3.55 gears give a great "seat-of-the-pants" feel. They do not increase performance, but they make 6th gear usable. With the stock 3.07's, you can achieve top speed in 5th gear. It really just comes down to personal preference. Try to see if there are any owners local to you with the 3.55 setup that you can test drive.
I cant remember for sure but top of 2nd in a 3.07 in a viper is 76 or so i believe. I have 3.55's and at 65 i have a little of second gear left, but third would be a better choice. With 500rwhp i cant see how your car wouldnt pull hard at 65??? in 3rd or 4th. that much power you should be spinning pretty hard at 65 in 2nd i would imagine depending on the rubber and how hard ya hit it

I agree..with 500rwhp, you dont need to be in 2nd @ "75 mph" to pass someone. 3rd would be the lowest in my opinion..
I guess it all really depends on "what" you are trying to pass at 65mph hhhaah, a 4 door grocery getter wagon or a Lambo that is trying to block you from you making your exit in time
If more people rode two-stroke dirtbikes as a kid, this manual transmission crap would never need to be asked. That experience alone will teach you about powerband and what gear to be in.
Well I am going by my experience in 1st and 2nd gear where the whole vehicle starts to gallop. You can feel it throw you back into your seat. In 3rd at 65mph the gas feels a bit lax. When I get on it in 3rd it feels more like my Trailblazer accelrating. Hence I realize I must be in the wrong gear. Or maybe it is a soft spot in the Viper.

Thats only if you paid to have the extra powerband put on your dirtbike. I bought one out of a mag for $200 and it came with a free Answer Roost Boost. My shit was hella fast after that..

I am finding this one a little hard to believe. STOCK Vipers pull pretty hard at 65 in third, so I don't see how a car with 500 RWHP feels like it is lagging.

Exactly Sounds like there might be more of a problem...
My CR500 Honda went 12.37 at 105 mph...but of course open class bikes are always in the powerband. Never did determine if the Roost Boost I added back then worked...
