Hey, guys new to this forum. Loving being a new viper owner. After all this years, I finally moved to the dark side (viper side that is) . I have been a mustang fanatic and owner for many years, but about a month started thinking, maybe is time to change and what better than a viper. So I traded in my 05 s/c saleen vert with 450 rwhp for a 2000 R/T bone stock, with 5800 miles. So the fun begins again doing modding her.
Did s/t and k&N, already. Now I want to make her louder she is way to quiet for my taste. I want to go with B&B and no cats, but Im also considering corsa or borla as long as I can go w/out cats.
Sure you can do it. It will be noticabley louder than with high flow cats but I ran Edelbrock headers, no cats, and a Borla cat-back on my old RT/10. Sounded great.
I bought belanger headers, but I was told that you dont get much power from header mods in a 2000 up r/t so I may be reselling them and investing the money elsewhere. Is that a good idea or should I go ahead with the install?
I know you can go without cats, but do they sell the cats bypass for borla and corsa? I know they have them for B&B.
I put Belanger headers/catbacks and 3" Randomech hi-flow cats on my 2000 RT/10 did a before and after dyno on the same dyno SAE corrected. I gained 25 RWHP and 40 RWTQ while still getting a good sound and passing California smog.
Personally, I don't think it's too bad, but everybody has an opinion on what is and is not loud. Once the car drops to a warm idle, which is about the time I'm backing it off the lift and into the driveway, it's pretty tolerable. Whack on it out on the street, and it's pretty raspy!
saleentoviper...one thing you'll notice with these cars is even with louder exhaust, cabin noise is still pretty minimal.
Straight pipes will also eliminate some of the heat build up in the side sills.
