I am in the process of getting a GTS but its through online. We are trying to figure out the best way to make this deal happen and we have been going back and fourth with the same issue of security.
What is the safest way of doing this deal? He wants to recieve the money by way of Cashiers Check, upon receipt of the check he will then have the shipping company pick the car. As for me, I am scared to do this because, what if after getting the check, he doesn't ship the car?
I just need to know from you folks whats the best way to make this deal happen and also be comfortable enough to do this without loosing money or being a victim of a scam artist...

Its so simple to be difficult but so difficult to be simple!:[right]
When I bought my Lamborghini,I flew out, looked at the car, gave him the check then drove it to the local Lambo dealer and had the shipping company pick it up there.I actually had to wait on the title to come from the bank and 3 weeks for the car to cross the country so it freaked me out a bit but everything was fine in the end.
If this guy has title in hand you would collect that when you give him the check to ease your suspicions.Hope this helps,
You obviously didn't take our previous advice and fly to the car for inspection and completion of the deal, so:
Bank transfer.
When your shipper (which, btw, if it was GaryA would know what he's looking at) gets there and gives you the green light, your bank can wire the funds to seller's bank. His bank can confirm receipt and the car gets loaded, title get signed, ect.
I really must have a soft spot for waterhead babies to keep giving free advice to you.

If you aren't willing to go fly out there for a purchase of this magnitude and you don't trust the seller you already have problems.
That aside, boplaw's advice is probably the best. However, I don't know many shipping companies that will wait around on you or your bank to transfer funds and for the seller to verify receipt of them. Gary might, if you talk to him in advance and discuss the situation.
Even at that, the seller is still taking more of a risk as their bank is going to place a hold on the funds even after they have been verified as transferred. There is still no 100% guarantee that the funds incoming are liquid. I've done wire transfers from two of my own accounts and my bank still placed a hold on my own money for 2 weeks.
You really should just fly out there, do the transfer at the bank where you can deposit a cashiers check and the seller can sign over the title, and then schedule a pickup for delivery.
That's true Matt, but two weeks is crazy long for a hold. The seller can keep the title until the funds clear if he is worried. Further, counterfeit cashiers checks are easily done these days too.
I always just fly in or rent a car one way, do the deal, and drive it back.
Why don't you make a post that asks someone in the area of where the car is to look at it for you?
Or just buy our 98? Obviously this is not going well for you. You have 228 posts, and you still don't have a car. Good luck, but if anyone is a candidate for getting scammed, you are it. Have you even talked to this guy on the phone?
Is there a tuner in the area that you can work through? Send the tuner the check, have him/her go to the car, pay for the car, take it so it can be pikked up from their shop. Seller overnights you the title, etc. I did this with mine through ART...worked out great.
