K&N FIPK kit or tubes/filters for about the same price?

My 98 GTS is bone stock at the current moment. The first mod I wanted to do is free up the intake path. I have a buddy that has a brand new K&N FIPK kit *part # 57-1508* that he never used because he sold his GTS for an 06 coupe. He said he would sell me the un-opened kit for $200. I seen that a set of silicone smooth tubes and filters on PartsRack goes for about $180 with shipping included.

I assume they will net the same HP but for looks alone I thought the FIPK kit might be nicer. For an extra $20 is there any reason not to get the FIPK kit?

**No Vipair comments please

Personally I think tubes and filters in enough. If you want the look of the FIPK, then buy it. I doubt it flows better than smooth tubes and K&N filters alone. Seems like the plastic intake tubes are more narrow and the placement of the filters requires a more indirect path for the air to enter. Just my $0.02.

I am looking to do some kind of intake upgrade for my 02'. Anyone know why this kit (K&N FIPK ) is not listed for the 02'? Also, what seems to be a better option the K&N or smooth tube plus flat panel filter? Thanks!
