hood springs

Are gen 2 hood springs normally really weak? Mine barely hold the hood up, and won't cut it at all if the car is on even the slightest incline. I just want to make sure it's not normal before I buy new ones. If it is normal, does anyone sell stronger ones?

Thanks

No someone probably screwd up and lubricated with oil. When you use oil they won't hold. When they get too tight lube with white lithium grease. You'll probably have to use some sort of spray solvent to get the oil out of the springs. GTS Bruce

Exactly, While I was working on mine a while back I noticed a little rust....without thinking I hit them with some oil. The hood would barely stay up unless there was some wind and then it would fall. After many hits with the carb cleaner it is doing better. duh

It's not the spring itself.....look at the hinge areas.

Same with mine; it wouldn't stay up AT ALL! I put a larger towel under the springs and hit them with some gumout. Worked it up and down a number of times and it got better. Had to do it a second time, and it was fine. It's been perfect for 3 years now! Save your money!
