Christmas eve night heading back to the house my 01 RT/10 started hydroplaning on the interstate. i spun backwards off the interstate, across the median and head on into an Explorer. So far i think my injuries are just a lot of bruising. the woman from the Explorer was allright on the scene from what i was told but she was going to get checked out just in case. i heard from the insurance company this afternoon. they said the damage is up to around 32,000 and they were going to fix the car. i told them i wanted a dealership to do all the work. any advice on this? here are some pics. they couldn't find the tire for the car.

No way you need to spend $32,000 on that car. Take the money and part out the car.
FIRST...let a body shop look at it......they will probably find more $$ in damage.
they said if the damage was 10k more they'd total it out. i bought the car for 47K ins said bluebook was 55K. it sucks cause i still have over 2 years bumper to bumper warranty on the car. granted if they fix it and i sell it the warranty is transferrable. anyone want to host a few pics ??
Get it estimated by someone that knows how to fixed a wrecked Viper. If the repairs exceed 70% of the fair market value you have a strong argument for total.
not sure how much there is to part out. engine still runs. dunno bout the tranny. from the middle of the trunk to to passenger door is GONE. you can stand in the spot where the car used to be. the paint on the top along with the hood has stress cracks in it. suprisingly the drivers door still looks aligned but the whole passenger side is screwed. it hit so hard it buckled the center console. i'm trying to see if i can get the pics up now
That sure looks totalled to me. I wouldn't want it back even it isn't. Glad you're ok.
I almost wrecked today. Racing a guy and when in 3rd I went to 4th, but it went into 2nd gear. Car started going sidways. Not fun. I saved it from doing a 360.
Take the $$$ from the insurance and keep the car!! Because the damage is isolated to the right rear....you have a fortune worth of good parts to sell to a salvage yard!! (and you'll have a clear title to go with it)
One more recommendation: Hire a local independant appraisor to write an estimate for you, and compare that to the insurance companies estimate.....you won't believe the difference!!

Whow, sheeeeit. They want to repair that? Craps...good luck. No telling what kind of electrical nightmares you'll have.
Anyway, glad to hear you were not terribly hurt. It amazes me that a car that handles so well, just totally stinks in the rain.
For right now, play along with the insurance and get it into the shop BEFORE you argue to total. I am sure the shop will find hidden damage missed by the adjuster (when they put it on the lift). And then, I bet you won't have a problem getting it totalled.
BTW...I think the rule of thumb is if the repairs = about 80% of the value, they generally total it. BTW, what insurance company (did I overlook that?)
Holy Shit Bud. That's fucking impressive. I GUARANTEE that once they start working on it they'll find more damage. I just PM'd you but I'll give you a call tomorrow.
that car is fucked. but the sum of the good parts is worth a fortune. bring it to a viper specialist, even if you need to pay shipping, get it to someone who knows how to write an estimate on a viper. worse case scenario, cash out on the ins check and sell that crap part by part.
i have AIG insurance. it was fully insured. the body shop they told me they use over here is a BS shop. i've seen the work they do and i wouldn't let them work on my sons big wheel. i told them i wanted ALL work to be performed by a Dodge Dealer even if i decide to fix it. it sucks cause i doubt i'll be able to find another deal with a factory warranty like i did on this one. and i loved the sapphire blue color. they said they already found a rear clip in tennesee for my car. i don't mind them using used parts on the car but i want them to be Factory dodge parts. NO AFTERMARKET JUNK. man at this point i just dont know....... and to make matters worse.... my wife got me a top of the line radar detector and my mom bought me a car cover with the Viper Logo hand stitched on it for christmas.... it never fails... when i'm running 140 or 150mph or being stupid nothing happens... when i'm driving careful obeying all the laws shit like this happens. my wife and son were following behind me about 3 car lenghs in the Escalade when it happened. they saw the whole thing. my son whos 5 years old started trying to jump out of my wifes car screaming "my daddys dead" it was all in all a rough fkin christmas
