As the dawn approached a quiet tension gripped the track. Slowly the competitors filed in not knowing what the day or the racing gods had in store. What cars would show after the Saturday event....would there be a 7 second pass? Would there even be an 8 sec pass? First and foremost for the all-motor posse....would Cudaboy and Tonetta be up to the challenge.
As the competition begins it appears that the only action of the day will be in the 9.40 class. The lone unlimited entry seemed to fight both driver error and inexperience, negating any possibility of a 7 sec pass. Leaving the 9.40 warriors as the headliners for the show....Tonetta comes out strong during qualifying while Cudaboy wallowed in his normal tapioca of failure and disappointment. The Big Gun stayed the course and qualified solidly with runs from 9.48 to 9.60 ... undoubtedly due in part to the charismatic guidance of V4C and the outstanding efforts of the LPE crew.
Eliminations come and Wardo is trailered, begging the question....would the king of citrus husbandry give up his dreams of even moderate drag racing success in light of this latest embarassment? Tonetta draws the first round bye and the final stage is set.....Tonetta v Big Gun.
As a sideline to the real racing activity, a backyard episode of Pinks played out between the Underground crew and track support....thankfully no one was hurt and the doublewide was intact when it left the track. It did seem as if the track management were less than accomodating....arm band bullshit and a complete lack of humor being on the list.
Final round action sees Tonetta and Scott stage...lights drop and Tonetta hits the holeshot, Big Gun spins .... Tonetta goes up in smoke...Gun recovers and passes up the remaining PomPom sis to trip the beams at a 10.40 on a pedal pass. Truly a final round to remember.
At the end of the day, the NA Kings drop the record to 9.48 with a best mph of 148 and change. Above and beyond the records lies the complete destruction of Cudaboy and a finish to the fairytale between the Cinderella Man, TXWYD, and the evil stepsisters.
A proud moment for all involved and a big thanks to Norm for putting all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Tony my friend, always good to see you again. Also i'm glad the car is ok, word is that it actually helped you by cleaning all the build up in there when the rev limiter hit.
We would have had it tooooo easy if you wouldn't have shown up. I'd love to have run a clean pass in the finals but the track wasn't quite was it was last year. I lifted after spinning hard in 2nd - If you wouldn't have sent that smoke signal, I'd have coasted to the end.
