Noob Looking For Some Help/Advice?

Hey Guys,

I've been a 'lurker' for quite a while now, and have recently started shopping for a Viper. So far, three have been sold before I could get to them, and now I've found one on Autotrader that 'almost' seems to good to be true.

It's a 2000 GTS ACR (Listed as an '01 by mistake). Located in Maryland. ~4,500 miles. Current owner purchased from a dealer in California. Asking 51K. It has been for sale for a little while now.

I managed to talk to the owner twice now. Apparantly he's got 7 cars, and wants to sell a few off. He's not sure if he's got the original ACR wheels, but otherwise he says the car is stock. I did get the VIN from him and a CARFAX checks out OK.

I'd like to post a link, but I see I have to make 5 posts before I'm permitted to do so.

Anyway, I was hoping someone might know something about this car. Any help is appreciated!

TIA and I hope to be a Viper owner soon!
Mike

2000 is the worst year for performance features. They have cast pistons and no ABS. Shop accordingly.

Yep I'm aware of that, but I have no plans of FI, and the lack of ABS doesn't really concern me. The car will just be a fair-weather toy.

Thanks.

Looks good from the photo's. Those aren't stock ACR wheels though. A purist would want the original wheels and that might detract from present and future resale.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the center console has a crack in it. DC didn't put much support under there and putting your full body weight on it getting something out of the passenger floor would crack it.

No offense but If you are looking for a Gen II (which by the way is my favorite body style) go with a 96-97. In trade for a power trunk release,
you are gaining forged pistons, better camshaft, computer that is "mod" friendly and won't set pesky check engine codes, and they have depreciated fully for low miles cars and are increasing in value.

Just my $ 0.02

Hamrhead....those pipes look a little off from what I can see in the not-so-good pictures. Look at them, and all under there, closely if you go in person.

I heard there was a new ad posted at the Morg in the used 97 GTS area....might be worth looking at. I doubt his numbers are firm......stiff maybe...but somewhat flexible.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I asked him about the original wheels - he's 'not sure' if he has them anymore. I asked him to find out for me. Plan on calling him back Thursday - IF he answers the phone.

As for what year to purchase, I'm more concerned with Color. The colors I would consider are Black, Silver, Sapphire, Steel Grey, and Graphite, w/ the dark interior (Don't really care for the Connelly color). Also, I do not want stripes.

Where is the 'Morg'? Is it the 'other' Viper site?

Hard to answer. I'm just over it....I can keep it or sell it...either is OK with me. Part of the fun, at least for me, was the journey.....and with the exception of some little goofy things....I'm spent.

Oddly...there are times I opt NOT to drive it 'cause I just don't feel like it. I guess I lost the edge! LOL!

I have SO MUCH crap to go with the car it ain't even funny....the only reason I don't have it listed over here is because I am trying to put a better list together of all the things I'll include.....not to mention all the stuff on the car.

I know...many will say I have it priced too high...I'm OK with that.

1) There is a LITTLE wiggle room, and
2) I don't HAVE to sell........

I am not buying a new home, investing in another house (3 is enough), buying another car......

So....I have all the time in the world. If I still have it come Viper Season, who knows...maybe I'll get back on the horse!! LOL!

I'm slowly becoming a believer in the "things happen for a reason" mentality. I had a slight (operator-error induced) issue with placing the ad at the Morg.....I figured it was an omen. I clicked refresh and all was fixed...I took it as an omen. Somehow, I still have Admin Access to the Classifieds there...and (HONESTLY) I accidentally approved my own ad. All things being equal I really would never do that to Jay on purpose....so I took THAT as an omen. If it sells....I'll take THAT as an omen.

I guess the ONLY reason I might feel somewhat rushed is......I might change my mind. Kinda like a HUGE band-aid......lets just get it over with and move on!! LOL!

I KNOW I'll want another one.....probably in a couple-few years....but then the "journey" will start all over.

I'd also avoid the '00 cars, ABS is a good thing to have on the '01-'02 cars, and the forged internals on the earlier cars are great if you plan to use any type of power adder in the future.
Just my .0014 after tax.

Again, I appreciate the help and advice from all - Thanks!

I attempted to contact this indivdual about his '00 again tonight, and again he did not answer. To be honest, I've about given up on him, as he doesn't seem very interested in selling his car, and I'd like to move on with my search.

I've found a couple that interest me, but I'm trying to take my time, collect as much info as possible, and (hopefully) make the right decision the first time.

I attempted to look at that car a couple times and as you have already discovered, the owner is difficult to get a hold of and doesn't seem overly motivated to sell. I didn't get a great impression from the lack of correspondance and subsequently gave up on that vehicle.

Thank You for letting me know that! I felt as if I was giving up on what could have been a great deal for a very nice Viper, but now I'm definitely moving on. Hate to say that I'm glad it wasn't just me he was avoiding!
