Interior Door handle not working

Has anyone had an issue with the door handle not opening the door when you pull on it? The last 4-5 times where I go to open the door and it won't open. Nothing, nada.

I am not locked in as I can reach over to the passenger side and it will open. So I have to roll down the window press the button and open the door, looks really cool.

Anyone know where to start trouble shooting this? It is a 99 GTS. Thanks

You dont have to roll down the window to get out... there is a mechanical release on the B pillar attached to the door (on the inside).

Its probably a broken wire in the door jam, a somewhat common problem. Not a terribly big deal, but pain in the ass.

Start by pulling the handle and disconnecting the wiring harness. Set the handle aside. Take a volt meter (set at the 10v setting,) and test the 2 power leads (one positive and one ground) at the connector. If you are getting power (the needle should peg on the voltmeter,) you have power coming to the handle itself. The problem would then be in the handle. If you are not getting power, the problem is not in the handle, but futher back inline. If no power is coming to the connector, you will have to trace the wiring back and test each wire at either end with an ohm meter to check for continuity. One of these wires will not have continuity, and more than likely is in the door jamb. You can double check to see if the door handle is good (while it's out,) by putting the leads on it's connector with the volt meter in the ohm setting. It should not register anything until you pull the handle; then it should peg. If so, the handle is good.
