steering rack recall :(

Well,

after only 5 days of ownership we ran the vin and it has the dreaded steering rack recall. now im sad because its a pristine 2000GTS (creampuff...but still my baby) with only 10k miles on her. Now im told they are going to cut her up, weld stuff, and paint her. It just isn't sitting to well in my stomach. im taking her in tomorrow morning, i figured its better then me hitting a tree because of the steering gear breaking. anyone else have this done...how does the car feel after? any different?

thanks, yes im a newbie...

Josh

Better make DAMNED SURE that the dealer has done this recall before - PROPERLY. Specifically, there are 2 triangular gusset plates that rivet to the bottom of the frame. They need to point FORWARD, not backward.

That's why I love the '01 and '02 vipers! The strongest frames and no recalls.

Some '99s needed the recall, mine did. My recall work was done 1 1/2 years ago, and the plates are now riveted, not welded. My understanding is that Dodge changed the instructions after some poor weld jobs.

They shouldn't have to paint anything but the welding or cutting won't be visible. Best of luck to you and your Creampuff.

so i dropped her off today. they sublet it out to a company that does vipers, ferraris, porsche etc in a wealthy area and are well known (and have done it before) i gave them the car for a week, so there will be no rushing at the same time i guess i'll get a scratch taken out so the car is perfect (on the a pillar) clear bra, oil change, and some new rear window struts. it'll be like a new car again...its good i dont have it for a week, i was speeding too much. besides i have this ultra cool vw jetta loaner car...sarcasm...lots of it
