Ran an M5 briefly on highway..

Couple of guys in their work gear on highway on way home.
Driver was cocky, kept riding my ass etc..
One of those situations, where I'm totally not in the mood but really can't let this go...
Sure you've all been there.

Ok..
Let him pull aside, in 3rd around 60, ( normally dump to 2nd, but didn't really expect to have to and again wasn't really in the mood ) 3-4 pull to about 120, had him by about 5-8 lengths.

Slowly pulled him.
Car kept up well.
Stock for stock ( as far as I know )

Shithead driving the car, but was somewhat impressed as it did at least stay in the ballpark.
Not sure how many have had run ins with them.
Top end at least, they run pretty strong.

( I should ad, not the new 500 hp M5).

I have seen the new ones walk SRT-10s at high speeds where the aero is better.

Most of the actual M enthusiasts I know of are complete dick heads. Before the M5 came out, I kept getting told how much the M5 is going to be beating Vipers and z06's with no problem. I knew it would never happen, and when I proved everyone wrong they quickly shut up. Congrats

[end rant]

This guy was definitely one of those guys.
With his buddy totally weaving in and out of traffic like an idiot, guaranteed he had the fastest car of his buddies, not running into anything that would walk him, and was saying, watch this...

Still think a 3.55 would be much more fun / effective use of power on the highway with this car.

I have had both, and that wouldn't happen. Now, some mods on an E55 is a different story. No stock M5 will pull an M5 at high speed. Been there, done that.

I had a 2002 m5 that was lightly modded that ran 12.40's all day long in the Phoenix heat. And your right MOST M owners are dick heads. The new models look like pontiacs.

We have a IL VCA member here that has a new M5, and a SRT. We asked him at the lst meet. He said no way can it beat a Viper. He did say the viper driver will respect the hell out of the car bc it will be closer than you think.

You're right. My last car was an e39 M5.

They are very expensive to mod and the gains aren't all that great. I will probably get an e60 manual sometime in the future for a work car.

Further proving my point

But seriously, I get along better with vette guys than M guys, and that says a lot right there. An example of one of the M pricks in my neck of the woods think a SMG M3 with intake/exhaust and some other bullshit bolt ons think they can run a stock viper. And another local guy with a brand new M6, every time he sees the Viper out he happens to be driving red-lining whatever gear he is in. It also doesn't help when all of his little butt buddies keep telling him how "fuckin' fast" his car is.

[End rant part 2]
