AEM is cost effective and simpler to install and use. Howver, it is not without its issues. The Motec is quite a bit more involved and costly. Cost no object, it is probably the best Viper solution.
Howcome so many big hp turbo vipers use aem? I highly doubt the cost is a problem.
cost is probably the problem. the unit itself is thousands more. then any other feature you want to control cost more. but, there is an endless amount of add ons you could modify that in the end is well worth the extra money. the engine management is probably the best that money can buy as mccarlin has said. if you want to have an endless upgradeability engine management system, motec is the way to go.
you could end up spending as much on a motec that some tuners charge for a twin turbo setup. or you can spend a little more than aem but get a world of difference compaired to the aem. what racing sanctions are the aem units used for besides drag racing?
AEM isn't the best thing around. it is a compromise. it is much more powerful than the VEC2 and pretty versitile. but the motec is by far the grand-puba of engine management. base compute w/o any harnesses is 4k. plus you need to make a harness. plus you need to know how to use it...
so it is a bit of a bear.
SVS is the only viper tuner i know of who has boat-loads of experience w/ the motec. and not to say that if you had a viper set-up w/ a motec that you couldn't get a non-viper tuner to work w/ it... but that damn harness is a PITA and when AEM is sooooo much cheaper and (all things considered) plug-and-play (well, mostly)... people choose AEM.

We'll I definatly know the AEM has it's faults!! A while back I went to my car after going the bank and it didnt start. I poped the hood and figured out the fuel pump wasnt turning on. I jumped the fuel pump solenoid with a paper clip and then tried to start it and nothing. Had to get the car towed which is always embarassing. Got it home and talked to Gary and he mentioned he also had a issue with them AEM before. I unpluged the battery unplugged the AEM and checked everything I could see. Plugged it all back in and still nothing. I had the key to the start positon the whole time to see if I wiggled something that was loose if the pump would come on and it didnt, out of frustration I smacked it in true Fonzi fashion with my 22mill box wrench and wala the pump comes on. Before that I plugged my laptop in and it wouldnt recognize the AEM so I figured it was the problem. Car started for the next 20 or so trys then wouldnt start. Pull my wrench out and give it a smack and boom pump is on. Bieng a professional procrastanator I started carrying the wrench in the car with me Got stuck a few times having to do it in front of random people and felt like a scumbag. Car still seemed to run fine but really started to act up a couple weeks ago. So now the AEM is sent back and getting fixed. They were like why does this thing look like it's been beaten with a hammer, I was like no it was a 22mill box wrench
Knowing the flow numbers of those heads(330-340 cfm at .600 lift), and with a nice cam, I would expect them to carry the Power to 6400 rpms or so...
I've seen H/C packages with Ported Gen II heads and a good cam, do about 560-565 rwhp, so is it safe to say these heads are worth about 40 rwhp over a nice set of Gen II heads?
Norm, maybe you could try a set of these, on your set up they might be worth more... What do you think?
you are such a BIG BALLER!!!!!!

don't hate the player, hate the game.
geez, let's build a 1500 hp viper. never drive it or race it like it was intended, and be a garage and dyno QUEEN. how's the red ghost doing by the way?
Your NA setup on this car is all the more proof that the V-10 should've left the factory with AT LEAST 600 RWHP!!
When Ford did it for that abomination called the new Cobra for Shelby, they used race gas and a 10 cyl motor to get there. However, SVS makes it look easy using 93 octane! All the more reason that the new Viper should have 650 RWHP and be very VERY attainable from the factory.
While I agree doing that NA on a stock bottom end is impressive, what does this setup cost though? Stryker heads, MoTeC, cam, fuel system, tuning, etc, that has to be north of $20k installed, no? You are approaching TT territory there in regards to cost.
