I bought a bone stock 2000 GTS about 5 months ago. I havent had a chance to take it to the track yet but have been practicing 1/4 and 1/8's about 3 times a week. Recently, I got the following mods:
I dyno'd the day after and got 434 RWHP/459 TQ....Im happy. So a friend of mine says to me "hey, lets go to the races" (street races). Now, before I get yelled at fellas, I know a viper doesnt belong there, and I probably wont take it again, but I did. Needless to say, ricer hell. Civics, evo viii's, a couple of older cobra mustangs, and a camaro or two.
So we meet in a parking lot and were supposed to all drive to an abandoned 2 mile strip and get down to business. As soon as I roll up jaws drop, as I would expect, but as soon as I get out of the car, 3 different guys come and ask if I want to race......FOR MONEY...am I missing something here. Am I naive to think I can destroy these ricers in a 1/4 mile, turbo'd or not? I wouldnt call myself an experienced racer, but im not inexperienced either, if these cars ARENT juiced, can they win?? Even with my experience, and these mods, im sure I can run a 12 flat or better, the whole experience made me unsure. The whole thing got cancelled due to a shooting, so we never raced, I would have been pissed if I got beat by a civic....any thoughts? Other than the obvious.
All of the above have the potential to spank you without juice, so be careful. Mustangs and camaros can pump out good power for pocket change, Evos are always dangerous and with about 15-20 grand, a early 90s civic hatch will pull you pretty hard (high 10s). Now, there is a good chance they are all posers, but most of these guys know what they are getting into with a Viper, so if they are racing for money, they are probably packing something. So, good luck and be safe. Racing for money is probably not a good idea if they are the ones who suggested it.

They are most likely banking that your car is stock, and they know they could beat a stock Viper. Since you are mostly stock, I would say stay away from them since the cars you listed can easily beat a stock Viper. If you ever plan on doing power adders (SC, TT, Nitrous) then go back and beat the hell out of those imports, just don't tell anyone that you are modded beforehand.

Even though I agree with "PFR" on the theory that all the cars mentioned can "be built" to be faster than an essentially stock viper with simple bolt ons....99.9% of the time these kids are just snot nosed punks who have NO right even challanging you.....next time, just go there with $300-to-$500 cash and MAKE SURE they put down the cash FIRST befor eyou run. You will not lose, LOL....trust me. Any "serious" racer with half a brain wouldn't just rush an unknown car (especially a VIPER of all cars ) like that to provoke a money race. Sounds like a few ignorant ego's that are still wet behind the ears need schooling, LOL......have fun & BE SAFE* ;-)

It doesnt take much for a evo to run high 11's, and in a real life street situation those things can launch really hard while if the viper even messes up a little bit it's all over.
Like most already stated.. A stock turbo evo will run into the low 11s.. Curt brown has even gone 10.7? with his stock turbo evo... From a dig your toast against most of the evos.. Even a flashed stock turboed car with intake/exhuast can go low 12s.. On the street with street tires etc you will more than likely get a beat up.. They pick on RWDs because they know that if they smoke you out the hole.. chances are they will win..
On a side note.. I ran a 500whp(BUILT AND TUNED BY ME) STI... 2nd gear pull.... neck to neck until about the top of 4th... If this would have been from a dig.. I would have been bitch slapped..
If you had a 1999 you could run a pretty damn decent shot of nitrous for good insurance. Even so, you could still run a 100 shot on the creampuff to make sure you didn't get the train run on you by a bunch of fast econoboxes.

Well said, I was thinking the same thing after I got home that night, if I get a poor launch and one of these shitheads beats me, its bad news, but if I win, who cares. Thanks guys for all the input, I think Ill stick to the track.

Did you read anything I wrote? STOCK TURBO.. I dont know how else to put it.. A STOCK TURBO evo has run in the 10s.. tons of STOCK TURBO evos have run in the 11s.. from low to high 11s... a STOCK TURBO evo with a FLASH(STOCK ECU REFLASHED) Full EXHUAST/INTAKE and Boost controller will run low 12s on plain old street tires.. They have run 11s with pumpgas STOCK TURBOS and above mentioned mods.. Its shitty but the 3274lbs SHITBOX will RUN HARD in a 1/4mile... I dont even OWN one.. but I have worked on plenty to tell you they kick ass...
So some punk with 2k will run low 12s on pumpgas on street tires all day long.
You know 2 of them have already run in the 8s? @ over 160mph... Pretty sick..

BTW.. The 05/06s got bigger upgraded chargers.. 11s on pumpgas with an intake, full exhuast, and ecu flash.. NO OTHER MODS.. Pretty easy to do with 1500-2000 bucks..
Leave them alone. if your not gonna join the crowd and know who has what then dont bother. Most of them dont have the money to be throwing away and wouldnt race a viper unless they knew they could beat it. you need to at least know someone who can give you a break down on who has what. Newbies always get picked on.
