Talking VIPER TRIVIA 101 ............do you know the history of the early Vipers?????????????

#1) What year did the Viper show up at the N. America International Car Show as a concept car?

#2) Where was this show?

#3) What was strange about the side view mirrors on the concept?

#4) After they decided to build it , Team Viper built two prototypes. What color was the first prototype, VM-01?

#5) What motor was in that first prototype, VM-01?
V-6, V-8, V-10, V-12?

#6) The second prototype was a red car with the V-10 iron block truck motor , but team Viper consulted with which exotic car company to convert it to an aluminum design?

#7) Viper body panels are made of what material?

#8) What year did the Viper make its debut at the N. American International Car Show as a production car?

Lots of cool stuff there. The Viper book was the first thing I bought three years ago when I purchased my '01 RT.
The pics of the VM-01(if I recall) as a convertible were pretty interesting.

#1) What year did the Viper show up at the N. America International Car Show as a concept car?

1989, with Tom Gale, Carroll Shelby, Francois Casting and of course Bob Lutz in attendence
#2) Where was this show?

In Detroit

#3) What was strange about the side view mirrors on the concept?

They were incorperated into the windshield

#4) After they decided to build it , Team Viper built two prototypes. What color was the first prototype, VM-01?

White, with no rally bar, but sported the production based 3 spoke wheels

#5) What motor was in that first prototype, VM-01?
V-6, V-8, V-10, V-12?

A 5.9 360 V-8

#6) The second prototype was a red car with the V-10 iron block truck motor , but team Viper consulted with which exotic car company to convert it to an aluminum design?

Since Crystler owned Lamborghini at the time they consulted them. With a contract to produce 5 complete running engines. After not being able to deliver they seperated.

#7) Viper body panels are made of what material?

The body panels were made of fiberglass-like composite material, and came pre painted once in production

#8) What year did the Viper make its debut at the N. American International Car Show as a production car?

1992 with Bob lutz to debute it

No googling here, I had a Viper history book that I received as a B day present a while back and read it cover to cover about 5000 times when I was in the service.
Guess reading pays off

My 94' has carbon fiber panels under the shifter console. When and why did it change to plastic in the later models?

Antenna is fixed on the rear quarter panel.

They also had the notch for the fuel door cut into the quarter panel instead of the fuel door.

I have also heard rumors the ealry 1993 models were in fact simply left over 1992's with modified vin#'s. Is this correct?

I think the major changeover in the '93s was with VIN 604+/-.

Antenna loss and battery relocation from the middle of the trunk floor are probably the two most noticeable features.

#7) The body panels are made of a plastic and fiberglass material that is is formed in a (RTM) resin transfer mold where the glass is injected with resin in a closed mold in order to form the part. All of you were mostly right.

#8) 1992

I will have to come up with harder questions , all the other answers were correct.

In 91 they were still putting in the finishing touches. It was in fact the 92 show, and it barley made that. Since the feeling of being rushed with the Gen 1's, that birthed the idea that carried out the lighter, faster Gen 2's.
