Rear end gear ratio

Wanted input on best gear ratio to run if you are interested in both 1/8 and 1/4 mile runs? I figure 3.55 would be perfect, but I wanted to get everyones input.

"perfect" is relative. depends upon what you plan to bring to track via HP/TQ/.

stock; 3:55 or even 3:73 is "perfect"
serious mods then stock 3:07 is "perfect"

IMO, the best (for mod vipers) is that which we cannot seem to no longer obtain; the elusive 3:33 (or is it 3:31??) anyway, only a few have it and god bless em. from what i have been taught/told; it is the "perfect" gearing for the modified viper...in all honesty i think it is primarily preference if not at least primarily HP/TQ influenced...

I am running a 94 with k+n's, smooth tubes, no cats, and 200hp nitrous system. Let me know what you think would be best with that setup. Also, what would you recommend if I upped the nitrous to 300(thinking of doing very soon).

Thanks for your input so far. i am interested to see what you say now that you know exactly what I am running.

With that much NOS, you should not go any hogh than 3.45's If you do, you will have to shift thru 5th gear in the quarter.

while mod list is apreciated, only two things truly relevant;
1. RWHP/RWTQ info.
2. is this gonna be a streetcar/daily driver, a 1/4 mile sled, or both?? how the car is to be used is just as important as the performance numbers in the best decision for the gearing of your machine.

i would not think it wise to push 300 ponies of nitrous through a stock block. but its your wallet getting taxed not mine so enjoy. i do 200 through my gts with forged internals and 300 i bet would make it scream BOOM after only a few fun runs! Always heard a safe number was to assume a max hp on the nitro by taking the stock crank hp (in your case aprox 450ish divided by 2= 225) meaning 225 max hp to push into the motor is safe, but a max safe. my advice is to keep it at 200 tops. if you want more, well then, you know the saying. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY. go blown or tt.

I run a 3.45 rear gear with a 20" rim/tire. This combination nets a 3.33 effective rear gear and is perfect for my power (650-770 rwhp).
