OK, just found out from my neighbor 20 minutes ago that he caught 2 kids trying to steal or break into my Viper at 4am last night. He knocked on his window and scared the kids away. Im pissed off to say the least. Im thinking of leaving the engine running all night with the windows down and a 'Steal Me' sign on the windshield as I hide on my roof sippin whiskey with my Desert Eagle.
My questions: Are our cars easy to steal? How reliable is the stock alarm?Any suggestions on Alarm or Lo Jack upgrades? What should I do for now to keep my car.
Some info:
1) I dont have a garage.
2) Im not in a bad neighborhood, but its not that good either.
3) Not sure what my neighboor was doing up at 4am, but I know he cant do it every night, I already asked.
It has always bothered me that the hood can be opened even when the car is locked.
What year do you have? If you have a Gen 1, you may want to upgrade the alarm or put a kill switch on it since you can't prevent people from opening your doors.

Its a Gen 2 GTS, will a kill switch solve my problem?
If you keep the car locked, trying to break in will set off the alarm. The alarm will also sound if they attempt to open the hood. So a kill switch will not stop them from trying to break in, it will only make it more difficult for them to start the car.
I park it in a driveway. Why would someone even try to break in knowing there is an alarm? Surely they see the blinking red light on the dash. can they bypass it somehow?
Pros can bypass an alarm in under 10 seconds. Kids, who knows, but I don't like the idea of anybody screwing with my car, so keep the DE handy for the time when you felt "your life was threatened"
If it bothers you that much, pull the main fuse. I had a drain in my interior compartment and the technician said he could pull the dash and start looking for it, or I could just pull a fuse so it wouldn't drain the battery. If the fuse isn't in, the doors WILL NOT open.
When I used to leave my race car outside, I would pull the main plug wire off the distributor or the coil and kinda stash it so it wasn't too obvious. Not sure what you can do to your Viper, but pulling a wire or plug off under the hood will sure cause them to lose time in trying to debug the issue.

Not sure this will work so well. The Viper will run fine on 9 cylinders.
Sorry to say this but in my world owning a garage would be more important than owning a Viper. Sounds to me like you need to get the priorities lined up. But thats from us OLD guys!!!! Work hard get a BIG garage then the cars. NO way I'd leave my Viper in the driveway. Thats where the Tahoe sits.

If you must leave it outside, pull the fuel pump and starter motor relays. They are located in the black box next to the "jump start post" under the hood. That sucker isn't starting with either of those.

It will if those two punks are reading this thread.

So when your Tahoe gets stolen, we all can chime in on how out of line your priorities are.
The man is looking for suggestions on how to keep from becoming a victim, not for criticism or opinions on lifes priorities.
My suggestions to you akallday, are along the lines others have mentioned. Alarm, kill switch, The Club, etc. I dont know how your driveway is set-up but, you could always park another car behind your Viper at night(if you have another one). Install a motion light on your residence that shines on your Viper.
If your Viper is parked in a garage whats to keep the criminal from breaking into your garage and stealing it from there? (while you are not home of course) In the garage, they are concealed from most witnesses and have more time to defeat anti theft devices. But the garage is a great deterrent too. In reality, if someone wants your car bad enough, they'll get it.
I like the Desert Eagle idea (I've had one for 10 years), but might I also suggest a Carbon 15? Nice hand gun that shoots a .223 shell and conveniently accommodates a 50 round clip.
My favorite part is the 1 1/2 foot flame that shoots out the front with each shot. You know that could be considered a security light...
Consider a car cover. Not for the security aspect but if its up, off or violated, there's some kind of very visible proof that the car has been tampered with. Additionally, embed claymore mines in the driveway around the car that get activated when you go to bed. That might solve the problem!
