Hey guys, I just joined today. I am considering buying a viper but I have a few questions. First off does anyone have a list of the different years with the different changes in body styles? Also, what are some things I should look out for when buying a viper? I am looking to buy a used one under 50k if that is possible. What are the differences in hp/tq in the different years? I am sure you guys can provide me with some really usefully information, just take into consideration I am new so cut me a break
Well , you could do a search but heres a few tid bits since Im a nice guy.
GEN1 - 1992 - 1995 RT-10 models only - 400hp
GEN2 - 1996 - 2002 Rt-10 and GTS coupe models - 450 hp
ACR edition offered on GTS from 1999 - 2002
ABS in 2001 models and later
forged pistons in 1996 - 1999 models
GEN3 - 2003 - 2006 models - 500hp
SRT-10 ( conv. ) only offered from '03 to '05
SRT -C ( coupe ) added from 2006 on
You can pick up a really nice low mileage GTS in your price range , which I feel you will be happiest with. Buy a 1996 - 1999 if you plan to add nitrous or forced induction - buy a 2000 - 2002 if you love to drive in rain or are ABS dependent.
you will find out that modding vipers is very addicting and you will spend tons of money on the car before you know it. With that being said you should buy my TT car that has everything done already so I can get my FGT !!

Aaron I just decided over the weekend that I'm selling my TT Viper to purchase some real estate. You should save money and buy my TT for $100k and forget about the Ford GT.
Mike you may have a good point - then Ill have 2 TT vipers - with a total of 2400 hp !!! AWESOME~ !
Also, I was thinking the other day - are we the only 1000rwhp TT viper owners that live less than 2 miles from eachother yet have never met or seen eachother cars ? what sense does that make ?
-on a serious note - you should call me about the real estate - we would be more than happy to help you.
Thanks again guys for the help. Another question though, what are some things that I should look out for when purchasing a used viper? Like wear and tear ect.?

There is a Viper Buying Guide written by Maurice Liang and is available at Amazon.com. I suggest you buy this book and read it. It is probably the most comprehensive book and a great read for someone new to the Viper world.
blackglass, Road and track published a good book awhile back. it is white and red with a 97 gts on the front. gives a good history of the car etc...
I have a 2000 black/black rt. not a problem from day 1 and i have 40 000 miles. have a viper tech check it out, and if you feel better, you can get an extended warranty from chrysler for up to 7 years after the build date. these cars are pretty basic and most serious problems can be detected early by a reputable mechanic.

basically, just go out and buy it
I'm pretty sure my Black/Black 2000 RT/10 that I sold to a friend is now being resold for $42K with a warranty 32K miles and 15K in mods. Car was always well serviced. Cali car.
