Maybe you guys can give me some info that will help me make a decision.
Once I get a 10.xx timeslip in my 99 Firechicken (should be soon) I'm thinking of de-modding it and picking up a used 1st or 2nd gen viper. Whats the maximum recommended N20 shot on a stock motored 1st or 2nd gen viper, and what kind of fuel system upgrades are needed, if any to run that shot? I know 150hp is usually the maximium recommended for our ls1s, but I figured the viper may be able to handle more due to the larger engine. Also are some years stronger than others, or are they all the same?
Just to be clear, im not after the most anyone has done on a stock motor, more like the most that is safe to repeatedly use, or the biggest shot the manufacturer of the n20 kits recommend if indeed they make a viper specific kit. I was going to guess about 200, and 300 seems awfully high to me, but I know absolutely nothing about vipers.
Please keep your opinions coming. I have to decide whether I want to turn my Formula into an all out race car, or get a Viper that would be a fun all around car, at the strip,at the auto x, and around town with a definite "coolness" factor.
Hey Josh, this is Kevin from Nor Cal LS1 with the viper. I ran a 200 shot for a while. I think on a forged motor you are fine.
BTW my friend with the stock viper you ran with your nitrous shot might be ready to run now that he has a few mods.
I have been running a 200 shot on my Gen I for at least 3 years now. I know a friend who has a 93 that was running a 300 shot in his stock 93 up until a couple months ago when he decided to go the blower route.
The problem is that when he dynoed he only picked up an additional 20 HP over the 200 HP jets, so in turn was wasting a lot of N2O. I know for a fact he did not have any problems. I know the NX kits seem to be jetted to run on the rich side if you use the proper jetting per their chart.
I think a 200 shot is the best bang on a stock motor, I went from 376 RWHP to 533 RWHP with a 200 shot on stock motor
BTW Josh, I got my nitrous setup & purners from Albert. Pleasure to work with and willing to talk to you when you need help ( unlike the first vendor i tried to get a nitrous system from). I don't know if he is still a dealer or not though. You can probably pm him on this board
nitro daves for nitrous express and any other nitrous stuff. they have great prices and taught me a lot when i was installing mine. http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/
Thanks guys, thats exactly what I wanted to know. I appreciate the help!
Hey Kevin, fancy meeting you here Tell your buddy I'd love to let him get his revenge, haha. I heard he put a blower on, what else has he done? What kind of power is he putting down? Hopefully I can at least give him a good race. Since that last race Ive put heads and a small cam in and Im stepping the n20 up to the 150 hit. I should be putting down a little over 500 rwhp through stock exhaust manifolds and cats. If I can dial the new suspension in I should be able to squeak out a 10.9x timeslip out of it. We'll have to set something up for a track day soon, let me know.
If you open up the exhaust it should be a good race. I would think the stock exhaust is really holding back your heads & cam. Right now you'd have to up the shot to a 200 to be even with him.
Sounds like you got a better rear end put in?
Yeah, Im running a 12-bolt now. The 1st time back at the track with the new 12-bolt, the driveshaft twisted in half I put in a chromoly driveshaft and the car has been bullet proof ever since.
Most here are correct with MAX shot, capable.
I rec. 150RW shot
It's the best all around best shot per bottle to run.
You can hit it with slicks outta the hole and control
it without worries with street tires.
I also found that with that shot, the imfamous
nitrous backfire, due to several conditions usually
won't seriously hurt the motor
