I think beating a V would be harder than you think. Down low, that thing is going to launch like a bat out of hell. Up top (where weight is no longer that much of an issue) I would be willing to bet they have REALLY done their homework with the aerodynamics. I think that car is more of a handful than the 1000hp/4000lbs numbers suggests. I would love to see how they stack up.
I was going to wait for a Viper-driving regular to say it before I did... I honestly feel that IF the Bugatti were to lose, it'd be an insanely close race.
Plain and simple, it was built to be the best on all levels... and with no exceptions, IS the best by quite a gap with very few cars coming close to competing -- and that includes modified cars.
For those that haven't looked up the numbers before speaking... they're astonishing: 0-30 mph in 1.5 seconds, 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 30-50mph in 1.0 seconds, 70-100 mph in 2.0 seconds, 0-180 in <14 seconds (in comparison, the MB SLR does it in 28 seconds)... stopping is supposedly 252-0 mph in <10 seconds, etc, etc, etc
I’m not saying this race is impossible, but the Viper better bring everything it has and then some – Hopefully it’ll happen.
I like Gary think it will be more of a handful than people think............I would love to see my beloved Viper destroy those snobby exotic engineers and their baby I have no doubt in my mind that the viper will beat it 70-200 but IMO that Veyron is going to be one tough fish to fry come 200+
the veyron runs 0-100 in mid 5's which is really incredible. i think from 100-200 that we can catch it and pass it. now from 200-250 who knows what would happen. i know we can get to 220 very quickly but then we have to grab 6th gear.
no veyron owner would want to find out what would happen as taking the chance of losing could bruise an ego big enough to afford a 1.4 mil car.
so its fun to talk about such comparisons but its not going to happen.
i would say that in an overall performance comparison that includes acceleration, braking, handling and some road course laps, i think we would beat the veyron overall. i just dont see a 4100 lb veyron being that great of a handling car. but i could be wrong.
wardo - as far as the s7 goes, it was really fun to give billy tally and his crew a nice kick in the ass last year at the Road & Track standing mile shootout. i know for a fact that the S7tt that they had there was making way more than the 750 hp that they advertise. i think that they were pretty surprised when we showed up and beat them by 5 mph and 15 car lengths in the mile.
John, I sure would LOVE to see something like this happen, keep us all updated as to whether or not things change and this comes to fruition. As for the S7TT, it's my favorite car of all time, cuda, I envy you...

I agree that overall in every performance category the viper would win. In a top speed run though from 0-260 I think the Veyron would win

Johnster.....If you come to Florida, I might take you up on that action. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 mile.
If you are not going to chicken out on me, the only 2 rules is YOU must drive (not a hired gun) and your Viper must a 1000 hp or less no hidden nitrous.
I do not know what yours was or what theirs was, MINE is 750 hp at the crank.
