about to offer $ on a viper.... need your help one last time... quick
about to put an offer in on a car. Sorry to keep making posts about this but it will be my first viper and Im getting excited...
its a 93 with 15500 miles on it. The whole car was repainted after a small collision that damaged the bumper(replaced with OEM).
The car comes with a clean carfax however.
This car is pretty much bone stock also.
My $.02 on this. Why are you buying this car? If you just want to own a viper, then great. If you are planning on modifying the vehicle for performance, then I would suggest waiting until you can afford a Gen II/III.
Have you ever looked at comparison photos of the suspension and underbody of each Generation? They are startling. I will try and dig them up on the morgue and post them here.
My point is, unless you are stealing it or you really want a Gen I, make sure you know what you are getting so you don't regret it later.
I rode in a roe blown gen 1 last night, it wasnt too shabby. I dont plan to mod and go all out in the car, but since the car was involved in a collision, it will be considerably less money, but retaining a clean title.
Im just looking to get into a viper for now, I hate not having a fast car to drive... the lexus just doesnt cut it now that the mustang is gone.
When Im ready for TT's, Ill sell the gen1 and get a gen2, but I need something for now to hold me over I guess is what Im trying to say
Nothing wrong with a Gen I in my book, just as much fun as the GTS and the Gen II RT-10's.
I agree with your analogy about it being worth less since it was in an accident. I would think the car with those miles in perfect condition and never wrecked would be worth around $32 K.
I would offer him $27 K or $28K for it, maybe less, but I definitely would not pay more than $28K for it. I guess it will also depend on, does it have air? Does it come with Hard Top / Hard windows? Stock wheels or any other mods.
Also for $8 I would do an experian car check on it, they seem to pick up better history than carfax in my opinion.
Chad, I don't think there is much difference apparent to the naked eye (same basic layout, cast aluminum arms), but from what I understand the changes are in the geometry, making the Gen III more rigid and beter handling.
Eric,
You know better than anyone, don't inch into this. I'd wait for a Gen 2. Gen one's have a inferior quality to the Gen 2's (and thats not saying a lot for the gen 1's since the interior of the Gen 2's is nothing great).
From Rolling around in a Gen 1 and now many Gen 2's, especially in the crazy chi-town weather you will wish you had windows all the time. Need them a lot at night, especially early/late in the seasons.
Just my $.02

the car looks great though, its painted yellow ($8,000 with rec.)
The trans are both T-56's, but in 96 (I think), Temec bought out Borg-warner. The older transmission calls for Dex III fluidChuck Tator mention the gears were different somehow) and the later cars(97 and up) used Syntorq for better oiling proporties and reduce NGR.

Whats wrong with a Gen I? I love my 93 with 9K miles on it. Shes in pristine shape and drives, handles just great. ITs also more of a piece of history, and thats what I wanted.
Have you dried out yet?? I forgot to through the windows in the car before we went it, that would have kept us much a little more dry. It is only the second time the car has been in the rain. I also love my Gen 1. I have not had any quality issues with the car(other than head gaskets). I prefer the look of the smooth hood instead of the naca duct. The gen 1 is the car that I fell in love with, so it is the one that I bought. Not to say a Gen II is not in my future, but I certainly cannot knock my Gen I.
