Red face Stock Gen II Wheel Question...

First, I've got 2 sets of stock wheels and would be willing to sell a set with or without low mileage pilot sports. They are in perfect shape as will be discussed below. PM me if you're interested.

I had a set of wheels with some curb rash and bought another set, with the intent of using one for track/don't give a shit and the other for show/cruising. When the second set arrived they were not perfect as had been discribed by the seller, and the frieght company might have messed one up as the packaging was not 100%. because they were used I couldn't prove one party or the other was responsible so I just took them, as I did get a decent deal anyway.

So I sent both sets off to a wheel repair place (one set at a time) and they repaired them and did a great job. However when I got them back and went to polish them as I had many times in the past I found out that there was no clearcoat on them. I called the wheel shop and they claimed Dodge never cleared the Gen II wheels, to which I called bullshit. They guys said OK send them back and I'll clear coat them.

So my question: Some people have told me they would rather have uncleared wheels and just keep them polished with aluminum polish; others have said get them clear coated. Clear coating can get chipped, uncoated can require more effort to keep looking good. Which would you prefer?

Flame suit on for being a polisher...

Cool Dallas Area Brake and Muffler?

And another question:

My buddy has a 69 Olds 442 and he needs some work done. Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Metroplex?

The finish is brighter without the clear coat, but a lot harder to keep looking that way. The clear coat finish has slightly duller look to it, but all you have to do is wipe off. The main problem is if you curb it the clear coat will start to peel and once that has started you damn near have to have it redone.

I'd prefer the wheels without the clear.

I just finished restoring 442 myself. What kind of work does he need done?

I'll check with him later today, he's out here for a few days.

Thanks for the replies, perhaps I'll leave them bare.

I never had the clear peel when I scuffed them up before?
