Daily Drivers

I just bought a 2000 GTS and I traded in my G35 for it, whith means Im using my Viper daily. Ill probably put 15000 miles on it this year, does anyone else do this, and if so any maintenance tips would be appreciated, is it any diferent to maintain than my g35, and am I best off taking it to Dodge?? Im sure most will say, "buy a beater for work and drive the beast on weekends and pleasure" but I coudnt imagine paying this much for one of my dream cars and driving a fuckin 84' civic to work, this car just makes the simplest task as grocery getting an adventure, and I dont want to give that up.

A daily reach around should just about cover its maintenance needs.

As usual, nothing but BS and no help responses here....

oil change, tires and the like is the main upkeep.

tires are about 1300 dollars at best for all four
oil change 110.00
breakes upwards of 1000, do that every 20k miles or so if driven casually

It's not a bad car to maintain at least compared to other types of exotics. Problem is when things go bad (window motors etc.) it can get pricey

Umm, didn't you only have your car for a month or so before your drunk pitcher wrecked it?

Yep, you're a real credible source of info.

akallday, use the search function for maintenance questions.

I guess you do what you have to do, but I can't imagine using one for everyday driving, every day... It would actually probably get old for me. Plus, as you are aware, the car is not all that comfortable, it's a little hard to get in and out of (for tall people, anyway), and tires and brakes are not cheap.
But, if you insist, at least change your fluids (all of them) frequently - like every 4-5K or so...

I would get a daily beater. It doesn't have to be a shitbox 84 civic. I have a decent Acura TL and its a hell of a lot more comfortable than the Viper and gets way better gas mileage. Also means that my viper can sit and get modded and break from the mods and get built back up and it won't slow me down

Also don't forget. With a daily beater, your insurance rate goes down...way down.

4-5K miles? It's like $600 to change all the fluids in this car. If you're rackin' up 1K miles a month, that's a pretty expensive habit. What is it about the Viper that requires such frequent fluid changes?

Well, you could cheat a little on some fluids, but don't cheat on oil, filter, brakes, power steering... Those tend to need frequent replacing, especially if you track much at all.
I really think you can beat that 600 dollar bill by doing most of it yourself, too.

I have over 12,000 miles on my 05 now & I only changed the plugs twice and the Supercharger belt once. Being it is a 10 rib belt it seems to hold up much better then my previous 8 rib belt did. Most of my miles is all open road & so far no problems. You should do some of the maintenance yourself, not only to cut costs but so it is done correctly.

Mamovoka I heard a rumor you were arrested for insurance fraud or did you get away with it?

Congrats on your purchase...

Get it to a viper tech ASAP and have him inspect it thoroughly...

Have a complete fluid change performed, and an alignment...

Do you know how old the tires are? If unsure, or you see a noticeable difference in treadwear between the front and rears...replace them...

I agree with the G-man...do a complete fluid change at regular intervals (oil every 3k)...

Remember...it is not the HP you need to be mindful of, it is the torque that will bite you...

Have fun...

Good point on the alignment, Rckt - mine was way off and everything just snapped into place after I got it done - much improved handling all around.

Yep...

Probably one of the most overlooked maintenance items, and the most noticeable once performed...

Maybe I go a bit overboard, but it is part of my pre-season prep...
