Guys,
I need help. I am looking into getting the 96 autoform Viper. I have been looking into one for a while and really interested. The only problem is, its engine and drive train is a 96 and the frame is a 00. How would I register this car in California? Its titled in Michigan right now.
The car hasn't been registered to the new owner who bought it in 2001 and its just been sitting there. Will I have problems with the car in California? Would I have trouble with Emissions or smog?
I mean, I don't know whoelse to ask, you guys know best here.. please help a fellow member out...
The Seller says, the car is registered as a 96 Viper with a regular title. But what I am concerned is, it doesn't make sense because the car has 2 different body parts, engine and frame. What does the DMV look at when registering the car. Aren't they going to look at the engine and whatever and see that the numbers don't match???
You're looking at the Bastardize Autoform RT in Chicago, right? Also keep in mind that there is no top or anyway to make one unless you have a small fortune and the windshield was modified, so if it breaks, you're in for a costly replacement. How much are you getting it for? Better be less than $30K to make up for the cost down the road
I lived in CA for over a dozen years - You are going to have big issues registering that car. Not to mention smog since a smog referee will have to certify the 96 and 00 combination.
The DMV will operate off of the VIN. Next comes the stickers under hood (or not) specifying whether the vehicle is 50-state Fed PLUS California. It mattered in 1996.
Call the CA DMV and ask. By the time you get off the phone, you'll be thinking "Pass" on this car. Go ahead, try it ...
Thank You Guys!!! Thank You so much. I am just looking for a Viper to start off with. I looked into the 03's but then I have no experience with the power this car has so I wanted to first own one for a trial and error kinda way and 30-35k seemed a good price..
haha.. Thats funny you say Mike. I didn't mean a 03 for that price. I know that's not even right but hey, I won't mind getting a 03 for that price if it comes my way
