First time buyer with questions, (No dumb questions guaranteed)

First of all let me state that I live in Canada and I'm looking for a Gen 2 GTS. As the selection in Canada is quite sparse I'll have to buy from the U.S.

My first question is to anybody who has imported one of these cars from the U.S. into Canada, what modifications needed to be done (airbag stickers, daytime running lights etc..........) and did you have to pay any fees other than GST and PST when bringing it across the border?

Now for some more general questions. As stated above I'm looking for a Gen 2 GTS, I've been looking on this board, the VCA board, Autotrader.com, Ebay and Cars.com. Is there anywhere else to look that may be advertising Vipers for sale?

My first color choice is Black with Silver stripes, and I'm also open to consider red with white stripes, solid red or blue with white stripes. Lower the mileage the better, I'll pay extra for nice aftermarket wheels or the ACR package. I'm willing to pay fair market value for the right car, so if any of you know of a car for sale please reply to this thread and let me know.

When I find a car it will need to be shipped as far as the North Dakota Border, supposing the car was bought from Mid US, approximately (Ballpark only) what should I expect to pay for shipping (under a grand? well over a grand?)

In my search for my first Viper is there any wisdom or experience that can be passed along? Anything I should watch out for or avoid? I've been lurking at this board for months, trying to educate myself as much as I can before I make the purchase, so any info will be much appreciated.

Also I'm curious to know if these cars are prone to any sort of failures. Transmission, axles, engine or any other?

Thanks for any help,

Another place you may want to look is www.DodgeVipersForSale.com, they have a Black/Silver, but it has been sold. I have never done business w/ them but they come highly recommended from those that have.

For transportation contact Gary and Almond Exotic Transports.

If you have not already go to www.amazon.com and buy Viper Buyer's Guide by Bob Lutz and Maurice Q. Liang.

You in sask or manitoba?

My dad has bought a couple cars up, it can be a pain in the ass if you don't know what you're doing.

Price varies greatly depending on year/milage/color. For instance I could get a 97 gts with 25K on it to your door for under 60K CDN taxes inc.

Why ship only to North Dakota? These guys willl bring it to Calgary, Saskatoon, or Winnipeg http://www.searail.ca/ . Shipping is well over a grand cross border. I paid $900 to bring a car from Toronto to Edmonton. Twice that much to bring from LA to Edmonton and more yet if you use a trucking firm.
The import levy is a couple hundred dollars, another $100 or so for the Federal Inspection and the same for the Provincial out of Province inspection. Changes are minimal. Daytime running light module and not everyone is asked to obtain it. Canadian Tire does all the inspections.
The import list and other info is at http://www.riv.ca/

Like CRAIG201MPH said it can be a pain if you don't know the ins and outs of crossing the border but I have done a few times for myself and for customers and it doesn't have to be a big ordeal. I have a transporter for my race team and could maybe help you out getting a car back to Canada if we could plan it around one of my races(approx. 16per year), My shop is near Toronto, let me know if I can help.
Also I have a customer that is selling his '99 ACR red w/silver stripes low mile american car-interested?

SPI TWINS,

Thanks for the offer to help out, I'm in Winnipeg so It's unlikely that I'll call on you, but if I do it's nice to know we could work out a deal.

I'm interested in the ACR, if you could get me some info I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply

Remember Beets not all ACRs have a/c. Red with factory silver might be the best color combo for the GTS though.

The AC is not a problem as I live in Winnipeg Manitoba, I'll need heat 10 times more than I'd ever need ac. To be honest I was not aware that AC was not standard on the ACR, all good info you guys have given me.

Ask around about cockpit heat in these cars. Major radiant heat from the exhaust system into the passenger compartment. The ACRs sold without it were meant to be track cars. Actually let's start a thread on that subject.

Have bought a couple Vipers over the last 10 years.
I sent you a PM with my phone number. Give me a call, because I know of one for sale in Canada.
